About
The Beijing National Aquatics Center broke ground on December 24, 2003 and was completed in 2007. The structure is made of Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) with sections that are eight one-thousandths of an inch thick. The material allows more light and heat through it than regular glass, cutting energy costs. The building will be able to seat 17,000 spectators during the events. It will then be reduced to 6,000 seats after the games have concluded.Arup.com: 'The Water Cube', National Aquatics Centre, Beijing
