How to Do Your Eyes like Kim Kardashian

What You'll Need

Makeup products:

  • Black kohl eyeliner
  • Black eyeshadow
  • Light, shimmery eyeshadow
  • Peachy-gold highlighting eyeshadow
  • Black mascara

Makeup brushes:

  • Firm eyeshadow brush
  • Eyeshadow blending brush
  • Smaller eyeshadow brush

Optional: black eye base and a fan brush

Step 1: Line the Bottom Lashes

Line your bottom lash line with the kohl eyeliner. Make sure you also fill in the area between your lash line and your eyeball, called the water line. The key to this look is using kohl liner as opposed to pencil liner. Kohl will go on darker for a more intense look and last longer. Katie uses MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder.

Step 2: Line the Top Lashes

Apply the liner to your top lashes. To do this, face the mirror, tilt your head back and narrow your eyes so that you can fill in the entire water and lash lines. Using the side of the pencil, draw a line slightly above the upper lashes as well. This is gentler on your lashes and makes the liner easier to apply. Your eyes should now be completely lined except for the inner corners, which is where you will be adding highlights later.

Step 3: Add Black Shadow

Using a firm eyeshadow brush, take your black eyeshadow and pack the color onto your lid near your lashes. The goal is to smudge the liner and blend it with the shadow. You can also use black eye base, which is easier to blend.

Step 4: Blend Liner and Eyeshadow

With your eyeshadow blending brush, use a lighter, shimmery color to blend the black shadow into the upper portion of your lid. The goal is to eliminate any hard line between the black shadow and the rest of your eye. When done correctly, the lower third of your lid will be black, which slowly fades into the lighter color near the top of your eyelid.

Step 5: Finish Your Bottom Lashes

Using the smaller eyeshadow brush, apply the same light, shimmery shadow to your bottom lashes and blend it with the eyeliner. You can also apply a little more black shadow to the bottom lash line if needed.

Step 6: Highlight

Dust or wipe off the excess powder from your small brush and then use it to apply your peachy-gold shadow to the inner corners of your eyes. Clean up under the eye by either applying your foundation or wiping away any excess shadow with a makeup wipe.

Step 7: Apply Mascara

Katie uses CoverGirl Lash Blast mascara because it has a studier wand. Start by applying the mascara to the top, backside of your lashes in one quick sweep. Then, starting at the base of the front of your top lash line, wiggle the mascara wand through your lashes with a side-to-side motion.

To apply mascara to your bottom lashes, first dab the excess mascara from the end of your wand onto the back of your hand. Run the tip of the wand back and forth over your bottom lash line. Since the bottom lashes are more delicate, make sure you don't coat them with too much mascara or they will become clumpy.

What You'll Need

  • False eyelashes (top and bottom set)
  • Lash glue
  • Q-tip

Optional: eyeshadow brush (or any other long, skinny makeup tool)

Step 1: Apply Glue

Take a Q-tip and bend it in half. Apply some glue to the bend then run the lash band over the glue so that just a dental-thread amount coats the lash band. Focus glue on the ends of the lash. Let set for 20-30 seconds or it will be too wet to stick to your eyelid.

Step 2: Apply Top Lashes

Lean your head back and narrow your eyes so that you can see yourself in the mirror. Don't close your eyes but keep them relaxed. Apply the lashes directly on top of your natural lash line, making sure the edges are secure.

Step 3: Apply Bottom Lashes

Apply your bottom lashes in the same way you applied the top ones but place them under your natural lashes instead of on top. You'll need a lot more patience since the bottom ones tend to be more tricky. You may want to use a long, skinny tool to help you guide the lashes into place and press them into the lash line. Touch up with liner as needed.
