Beer Can Chicken is an alternate method of cooking barbecue chicken. It is a form of indirect grilling in which a half-full beer can is used to support and steam flavor the chicken. The outside of the chicken is prepared with barbecue sauce of choice, and 1/2 of the beer poured out or consumed. The remaining beer, along with the can, is inserted into the cavity of the chicken, allowing it to "stand up" in the oven or on the grill. A pan is used under the chicken to catch any fat or residue from the can that collects under the chicken. Usual cooking time using this method varies depending on the heat used, but ranges from 1.5 to 2 hrs. Proponents of this method for cooking barbecue chicken come from all parts of the globe.
