  In an e-mailed statement to The Detroit News, on March 13, 2009, Winans said, "To be accused of these allegations, which arose out of a child custody right dispute and my desire to spend time with our children as court ordered, is nothing less than heart wrenching. • Debra Winans Assault

  BeBe and Debra Winans were divorced in 2003 after a 16 year marriage. On Valentines Day weekend 2009, Bebe allegedly pushed Debra to the ground, in front of their 13-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son, after an argument over custody issues.   Born Benjamin Winans, into the famous gospel-singing Winans Family, he and Cece (Priscilla) achieved broad visibility as vocalists for the Evangelical television show PTL Club during the tenure of the subsequently disgraced preacher Jim Bakker. The duo went on to become one of the most successful crossover gospel/R&B acts of the 1980s and 1990s. The pair split in 1996, going on to further success as solo artists.
