Bear Grylls

Bear Grylls is a mountaineer, author, motivational speaker and former member of the British Special Forces who stars in the Discovery Channel show, Man Vs. Wild. The show is known in Britain as Born Survivor. His wife, Shara Grylls, gave birth to their third son on January 15, 2009. In 2007, Grylls came under criticism after it was discovered that he had stayed in hotels during parts of the filming of his show. It was also alleged that certain sequences that appeared spontaneous were actually coordinated, engineered and choreographed.Times Online: TV 'survival king' stayed in hotels

Broken Shoulder

On December 6, 2008, Grylls broke his shoulder while on location in Antarctica. Grylls was filming the Antarctic trek for Man Vs. Wild and had planned to climb a 9,000 foot mountain on the continent. Grylls was airlifted to South Africa where his recovery was being filmed. Grylls reportedly suffered a compound fracture, with the broken bones protruding from his skin.
