About the Game
Bayonetta is an action game developed by PlatinumGames, the same company who worked on the innovative MadWorld for the Nintendo Wii. Key members of the team include former Capcom employees Atsushi Inaba (Steel Battalion, Viewtiful Joe) and Hideki Kamiya (Devil May Cry, Okami). Bayonetta's visuals and atmosphere have been compared to Devil May Cry, which is understandable.
In the game, players take on the role of Bayonetta, member of an ancient clan of witches with mystical powers who must take down angelic enemies in over-the-top combat sequences. The heroine can carry out a variety of powerful combos and is equipped with two handguns, two heelguns and other fun weapons like katanas. Since she's a witch, Bayonetta also has access to magical attacks, such as summoning a huge dragon to devour enemies or conjuring a guillotine. Defeated opponents drop halos that can be used to upgrade her weapons and move set.IGN: E3 2008: Bayonetta Eyes-on (July 16, 2008) IGN: GC 2008: Bayonetta Preview (August 20, 2008)
Xbox 360 vs Playstation3 controversy
The XBox 360 version is officially developed by PlatinumGames, while the Playstation 3 is explicitly not linked to PlatinumGames, but is instead a port by SEGA. This is explicitly mentioned on the boxart.
As of October, The Playstation version is far inferior to the Xbox 360 version. The demo on both systems has been compared by Destructoid and Gamestop, showing obvious differences in qualityhttp://www.destructoid.com/bayonetta-demo-xbox-360-vs-ps3-151488.phtml
