Series Synopsis
Re-imagined from the 1978 original film and series of the same name, Battlestar Galactica, the re-imagined series, premiered in 2003 as a Sci-Fi original mini-series. The cylons were originally created by man to act as soldiers and service machines. As the machines evolved, they grew tired of being slaves to mankind and began to rebel against their creators. This rebellion resulted in the first Cylon War.
At the beginning of the series, just over forty years have passed since the end of the Cylon War. The Battlestar Galactica, an old ship that served during the Cylon War, is ready to retire and become a museum. When an unexpected cylon attack wipes out the Twelve Colonies, the majority of survivors are those who were in space during the attack, and the Battlestar Galactica is the only military vessel left able to lead and protect the remaining human survivors..
Commander Bill Adama butts heads with the new president, Laura Roslin, who before the attacks was the Secretary of Education. Roslin's concern is in rescuing survivors, but the more realistic Adama knows that they are at war and the only chance of survival is retaliation.
Fleet intelligence soon discovers that the cylons are no longer the simple, metal machines human's call "toasters". They have evolved, and now they look just like everyone else. The humanoid cylon models had been living among the colonies for two years, plotting their plan to destroy humanity.
As the fleet moves through space in search of a mythological Thirteenth Colony called Earth, the cylon threat relentlessly pursues. One by one cylon infiltrators within the fleet are exposed and it is soon revealed that twelve models exist. By the end of season three, eleven of the twelve cylon models have been identified and season four eventually outs the hidden four models.
A cylon civil war breaks when a rift is created between six of the seven humanoid models over unethical treatment of the cylon raiders and centurions. Half of the cylon forces implore humanity to join them, and together the humans and the cylons they have made a treaty with discover Earth, only it isn't the inhabitable paradise they had hoped for. Evidence quickly reveals that it has been a wasteland for at least a thousand years.SciFiPedia: Battlestar Galactica
Season 4.5
The last ten episodes of the series, airing as Season 4.5, premier on SciFi and Space Cast on January 16, 2009 at 10 PM. With their hopes destroyed, the remainder of humanity must act quickly if they want to survive, but nothing is certain. The hostile cylons are still out there and there is still one model that has yet to be revealed.SciFiPedia: Battlestar Galactica
