Battlefield Heroes will have a closed beta period during which a select group of people will be able to try an in-progress version of the game. Sign-ups for the beta began on January 22, 2009. Previous applicants from the last closed beta who did not get in will be given first priority while new applicants will be considered afterward. Developer DICE plans to admit more people as the beta progresses, and is likely planning on a large population of players.

Go to the official Battlefield Heroes site. Log in with your EA account, or create an account for free. Go to the sign up page, and register your name. When a slot opens up for you, DICE will send an email to the address you registered with your EA account. Follow the instructions in that email to access the beta. First priority will be given to people who are on the waiting list from the last beta. After those people have received invites, new applicants will start being selected.

Battlefield Heroes is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter with cartoon-style graphics. Players are divided into two armies, and fight against each other to accomplish varying goals. There are three different classes: the Commando, who can use stealth and is skilled with sniper rifles, the Soldier, who has balanced abilities and uses a machine gun, and the Gunner, who is the slowest of the three but has the most powerful weapons.

As the player gains experience they will level up and accumulate special abilities, like the power to throw 15 grenades at a time, absorb grenades and more.
