Battlefield 2 is a first person shooter video game. The player chooses one of several classes of soldier, called "kits", and uses the advantages of their kits to take on an opposing force. The player can also use a variety of vehicles such as tanks and helicopters.
The console version, called Battlefield 2 Modern Combat, adds a few twists to the original PC game, such as a campaign, mini-games called "challenges", and "hotswapping", the ability to swap between soldiers you control in real-time.

Controls
- Left analog to move.
- Right analog to aim.
- RT to shoot.
- LB to jump.
- B button to reload.
- X button to "hotswap". This allows you to switch between any soldier within sight. Soldiers that you can switch to are marked by white symbols; those that are not are "blue". You can use a weapon's scope to hotswap to soldiers that'd be normally too far out of sight.
- Hold RB to bring up inventory; use the right analog to select an item and release RB to equip it.
- Tap RB to switch back to your main weapon if it's not equiped.
- Click the right analog for fine aim.
- A button to enter/exit vehicles.
- Left analog while driving a vehicle to move forward, turn, and go in reverse.
- Y button to switch positions in a vehicle (driver, gunner, passenger, etc.)
- RB inside a vehicle to change the camera angle from first-person to third-person.
Campaign Info
- The goal is not just to complete the levels, but to perform well enough to earn Stars from your mission performance (maximum of ten).
- You are judged based on how quickly you complete the level, how many points you earned, your accuracy, the amount of losses you sustained, and your "weapon usage" (how many different weapons you completed the mission with).
- Collecting Stars raises your rank. As you raise your rank, you will unlock new weapons and upgrades as well as increased multiplier bonuses and "challenges", which are mini-games you can play for more Stars and other bonuses.
- When you kill enemies in quick succession, you gain a multiplier. If it rises enough, you will start receiving "multiplier bonuses", such as "Fast Reload", "Armor", "Health" and other augmentations. The bonuses last as long as the multiplier stays in effect. Multipliers are also critical towards gaining a high score.
- You can also perform special bonus objectives, such as killing 20 enemies with grenades in one mission, to receive a "medal". Some ranks require that you have a certain amount of medals to achieve it. Medals will also give you achievements; for more information, see the "Medal Achievements" section.
- Once you get a Medal, it's yours, no matter what happens. You do not need to beat the level and can in fact quit to the main menu right after you collect it. As long as the game is able to safely save your progress, the Medal is yours permanently.
Kits
Assault
- Symbol: Lightning Bolt
- They are the bread-and-butter of your kits. They are great combatants at any range and have explosive capabilities. Their assault rifles have a powerful scope that can be upgraded, and along with upgrading their clip size, makes them a killing machine. Rounding them out are powerful frag grenades with a high splash ranges and a decent grenade launcher (the latter is good for a quick strike but don't rely on it). They also have smoke grenades which, in addition to their firepower, makes them absolutely lethal to deal with. Their only weakness are vehicles, at least compared to other classes.
- Weapon Set:
- Assault Rifle
- Frag Grenades
- Grenade Launcher
- Smoke Grenades
- Pistol
Engineer
- Symbol: Wrench
- They can repair vehicles, making them extremely useful for keeping vehicles in play. Just walk up to a vehicle and zap it with their blowtorches until it's healed. Their shotguns are decent for taking out the enemy even at longer ranges, especially the one used by the USA faction. Just make sure to aim for their upper-chests. Land mines are good if you can set them up in advance, and are helpful sometimes for getting ten-star runs. Most important of all is their rocket launcher, which is needed to destroy vehicles and aircraft safely at long range. It's may take a lot of practice hitting enemies with rockets, however.
- Weapon Set:
- Shotgun
- Land Mines
- Rocket Launcher
- Blowtorch
- Pistol
Sniper
- Symbol: Crosshairs
- Your basic sniper. The sniper rifle is lethal and near the end of the game, they can upgrade the ammo to be armor-piercing, allowing them to kill drivers and pilots without harming the vehicle. Use this to steal aircraft from the enemy. For enemies on foot, use the GPS Tracker to quickly find targets, and smoke grenades if you are exposed. They also have the "Laser Designator" which lets them call airstrikes on targeted vehicle; just aim the crosshairs on a vehicle, hold RT, and keep the vehicle in the crosshairs until a lock-on occurs.
- Weapon Set:
- Sniper Rifle
- Smoke Grenades
- Laser Designator
- GPS Tracker
- Pistol
Spec Ops
- Symbol: Knife
- Their SMGs are ridiculously dangerous at close-to-mid range, possessing a massive rate of fire, accuracy, and a scope. They can build up multipliers very quickly using them. Stun Grenades are decent for throwing the enemy off balance, but what's really useful is the C4. Try setting them on vehicles and using them as makeshift car bombs. The Combat Knife is fairly worthless, however.
- Weapon Set:
- SMG
- C4
- Combat Knife
- Stun Grenades
- Pistol
Support
- Symbol: Medical Cross
- An eclectic class. They have Heavy Machine Guns that have a massive clip size and serious power, enough to wreck vehicles quickly. However, the weapon has no scope, making them useless at long range. They can heal themselves or even other allies with the Auto Injector; if you want to heal an ally, get close to him, aim towards him, and press RT. Finally, they have the ability to call Mortar Strikes. Like the Laser Designator, you keep the crosshairs on a vehicle until it's locked on, in which case a massive rain of bombs will bombard its location. However, the vehicle must not be in motion or otherwise you cannot lock on.
- Weapon Set:
- Heavy Machine Gun
- Frag Grenades
- Auto Injector
- Mortar Strike
- Pistol
Battlefield 2: Modern Combat Campaign Walkthrough

In and Out
- Simple: fight your way through the linear path along the streets, blowing up everything.
- When you come to the intersection with the tanks, hotswap to your engineers and bomb them with rockets. A heli will swing by to aid them; wipe them out.
- Friendly tanks will join you eventually. If you like, hotswap to one and head down the street, blowing up everything in your path.
- Blow down the doors into the factory and fight off all the troops trying to swarm in. Many will be trying to paradrop in; if you can, hotswap to any soldier and take control of a turret, shooting down the helicopters before they can drop their troops for a big bonus.
- When all the enemies are wiped out, you win.
Radio Silence
- Two humvees will drive into a street. You'll need to defend your convoy from advancing troops. Watch out for grenadiers on the rooftop and kill them asap with an Assault trooper's scope or they will quickly wipe out the humvees.
- The humvees will then drive to a courtyard. This will get hectic in a hurry, so if you see a mass horde of enemies storming your position, hotswap to a gunny and mow them down. Again, watch for grenadiers on the rooftops.
- Once this area is defended, move or hotswap to the next hotspot. Destroy everything trying to enter the intersection. When the heli shows up, fire rockets at it while hotswapping to a gunny to finish the job. If you are fast enough, you will down it before it can drop off paratroopers for a big multiplier bonus.
- After this battle is won, ignore any enemies left and drive to the final goal. If you have to, run to the goal on foot.
Headshot
- Immediately snipe the sniper directly ahead on the opposite roof.
- Turn right and hotswap to the next allied sniper and pop all four enemy snipers on the building (two on either end of the roof of the big building, one on an apartment rooftop dead ahead, one in a window of the building).
- Hotswap to the sniper overlooking the burning building northward. An enemy chopper will swing over it; snipe all the paratroopers, cleaning up any that manage to land (there's roughly four of them).
- Once they are dead, hotswap to the previous sniper and snipe all three of the soldiers on the roof of the tall building.
- Hotswap back to the previous sniper to kill two soldiers on a rooftop attacking the third sniper.
- A chopper will drop two soldiers on the schoolhouse roof. Stay with your current sniper and waste them.
- Hotswap to the third sniper (overlooking the intersection below) and snipe the gunner of the vehicle driving in from the right, then snipe all the soldiers below. They will throw a smoke bomb and attempt to storm your building; kill them with your pistol if they try to take your roof.
- After getting all of this last group of soliders, a final chopper will drop a trio near the third sniper; kill them all.
Submerged
- You'll need to destroy two bunkers over looking the river. The first is right where you paradrop from. Use an engineer to blow up ground resistance as you drop downward.
- Head to the bunker and enter it. Hold A when prompted until the countdown stops to set a charge; escape before it blows.
- Man the turret guns and shoot the hordes of troops coming up to your location.
- When they are dead follow the riverbank to the next bunker; there will be one ambush along the way, behind some rocks, along with the occasional boat.
- Kill everyone at the bunker, then bomb it. Use the turrets to take out the incoming troops.
- Storm the harbor next. There will be loads of vehicles and troops guarding the entrance. Use RPGs and grenades to kill them off.
- Inside the harbor, go right, around the buildings, killing all in your path. Watch out for backspawners from all sides.
- Around the other side of the building are the docks. Follow them to the first two subs, parked side by side. Blow them up as you did with the bunkers; your soldiers can swim in the ocean to them.
- Continue on to the final sub, parked in the warehouse at the end of the docks. Get rid of the soldiers close by the sub on the catwalks and ignore the rest, diving on the sub and bombing it to end this mission.
Metal Island
- You start by defending an oil rig. Use the engineers to bomb the helis, then help the assault troops take out the survivors. If you are bad at hitting the helis with rockets, try using the turrets.
- Two boats will approach; anticipate them with your engineer and bomb them, shotgunning any that try to storm the stairs up. Try to keep as many alive as possible as you will have to defend this area again later.
- Afterward, you must hotswap to the island ahead. Set up some mines if you've unlocked them to destroy the APC that eventually arrives, then use the anti-aircraft gun to down the helis and boats. If things go bad, try playing as the engineer in the lighthoues, bombing all that approach you.
- Afterward, you must hotswap back to the oil rig and defend one last assault. The incoming helis will be a constant pest to you. Keep at it and use the turrets to pick off the helis if need be.
Heavy Tonnage
- Fly to the ship using the helicopter and bomb the metal cargo hold doors on the deck. Your goal is to get to the cargo inside, and destroy them as well.
- As you sweep the ship, keep hitting the never-ending horde of enemies coming from the stern, manning the turrets. Watch out for enemy grenadiers lurking around the stern.
- Periodically a few allied troops will try to storm the vessel. They can set charges on the cargo hold doors to blow them open quicker (look for a yellow and black striped metal plate to set them). If one of them is an engineer, use him to RPG blast the turret gunners.
- Once the doors are blasted open, blow up the cargo any way you can; grenades, RPGs, heli, anything. If you can blow up the cargo before the seven-minute time limit expires, you win.
Air Traffic Control
- If you unlocked the ANPQ Laser Target Designator for the sniper, it will be a great help. Use it to take down the chopper flying above you at the start.
- Hotswap to the lead convoy of the line of vehicles below and wipe out all the soldiers as you drive in. Remember to press Y to switch between driver and gunner.
- Once inside the helipad, hotswap to a tank to destroy the parked helis. Afterward, keep hotswapping to gunnies to wipe out the human troops while switching to tanks to take out enemy cars.
- Eventually enemy air support will come in. Hotswap to the snipers on the watch towers and bring them down with their designators. If you don't have any handy, use the gunnies and tanks.
- For a final push, the enemy will send in a few tanks, with some cars to aid them. Hotswap between the snipers blasting them with designators; if you don't have any, you'll have to hope your tanks can outlast them.
- When this final assault is repelled, you'll win.
Catching Flak
- You have four hotspots on your map to fly to. Each one must be cleared of enough enemies so that the recon heli (appearing as a blue helicopter symbol on the HUD) is able to fly safely in the recon zone until the "recon countdown" finishes.
- The recon heli has no weapons, and cannot be destroyed. Always hotswap to something else unless you plan on using it to complete recon. Note that on this level, you'll start as the recon heli.
- Church hotspot: Hotswap to a regular assault heli and bomb the crud out of everything here. Try to the get the vehicles first, specifically the one circling the perimeter. Don't rush the church as there are a lot of grenadiers protecting it.
- Oil rig hotspot: Friendly engineers will spawn; use them to take out the marauding soldiers and bushwhack the ground vehicles. If you like, keep an engineer to capture other hotspots, but be aware that this will affect your mission time.
- Ravine hotspot: Fly over the bridge to spawn some paradropping snipers. Hotswap to them and snipe the bunkers overlooking the ravine. The recon heli will actually have to descend into the ravine to take recon, so fly carefully.
- Village hotspot: If you like, just borrow a sniper from the previous hotspot and pick off the marauding soldiers in the village.
- After clearing all the hotspots and taking all the recon, you'll need to retake a helipad. A few bombing runs with an assault heli will take care of things.
- You must land on the cleared helipad using the recon heli to end the level; techincally, you do not have to land, just fly low enough over the helipad.
Rolling Thunder
- Your allies for this mission are all tanks and engineers. Remember to heal any tank on the verge of destruction with your engineers; just watch out for idiot allies running you over as you do so.
- Hotswap to the tank ahead and park by the farmhouse, so that the wooden fence on the hill provide some cover. Shell everything coming down the hill, aiming for the tanks and any enemies trying to flank you.
- Once they are all dead, drive over the hill to the airfield entrance below and hotswap to one of the engineers manning a grenade launching turret. Use it to wipe everything out.
- Once the enemies are cleared out, hotswap to the engineers inside the airfield, by the south entrance. Mine the road outside and it should help you to take out the troops and two cars coming in. Mind the tank outside; shoot him carefully with some rockets.
- Take a tank and battle everything lurking around the next hotspot, hotswapping back and forth between tanks and engineers on foot to keep the pressure up.
- For the final battle, head forward to trigger the arrival of the Chinese heavy tanks, then retreat back to the ruins and pound on them from there. Hotswap between your allies, pulverizing everyone till none stand.
Burning Bridges
- From the start turn right and hotswap towards the sniper behind the buildings. You'll want to wait for the heli to appear and down it with the laser designator. By this time the Spec Ops will be pressing forward, so aid them by sniping the four troops on the watchtowers.
- Switch to a Spec Op and press forward to the left side of the bridge, popping anyone you see with the Spec Op's main rifle. You'll find the Spec Op's weapon to be extremely powerful at any range. There's enough Chinese here to give you a slew of bonuses such as Armor and Fast Reload.
- Press forward to the first target and set the explosive (NOT your Spec Op's C4) by standing near the metal plate and holding A, as in other levels. The charge will not count down; you must set the other three remaining first.
- Continue on and at the bus, mow down all the Chinese coming round it. If you are dying, hotswap ASAP so you don't lose the bonuses. Set the second charge.
- Carefully press forward, looking around cars and wrecks for hidden enemies, and watching for shooters climbing up to the tops of the bridge as well as a few paratroopers. Be careful of explosive barrels as well. Set the third charge.
- Setting the third charge unleashes a massive wave of soldiers with a heli backing them up. Hotswap to any Spec Op close to a turret and down it quickly, then mop up and set the last charge.
- The countdown begins after setting the final charge. You do NOT have to fight through the battilion on the other side of the bridge; you can run back the way you came or even let the countdown expire while you are still on the bridge. As long as the enemies themselves do not kill you, you will win the mission either way.
Beach Party
- This rough mission sees you storming a beach, D-Day style. Your team consists of Support and Engineers. To take the hill, you'll need to use the convienent path to the left of the bunkers. It's possible to get up in other ways, but this is best as you can hit the gunners in the bunkers, clearing the path for your men and reducing casualties. Your ultimate goal are the two tanks up top.
- As you approach the beach straight through the mine field, blow up the mines. When you hit the beach, instead of getting out, fire artillery at the path to the left of the bunkers, going up the hill, so that you take out the gunner there. Then shell the bunkers until your men get close enough to hotswap to.
- Hotswap to a Support troop and head up the path, shooting the soldier in the trees, then following through the bunker network, taking out everyone you see.
- Keep following the bunker network until you hit a second staircase. Make sure to wipe out everyone here before going up. If you are clearing out everyone, your allies will follow you. If they aren't, they're under fire from enemies you either missed or decided to head down the hill for a party.
- Up the second staircase, head right immediately before you are cut to pieces in a crossfire, then storm up to the bunker ahead. Go through the bunker mowing down everything.
- This path leads to the hill. By this time, your allies should have caught up. Use your engineers to wipe out the tanks; don't forget the Support's mortar strike, if you unlocked it.
- When both tanks are destroyed, you win.
Big Bang
- Start with your tank and go to the right along the road, blasting all in your way. Your ultimate goal is to get into the refinery and set explosives on the tops of the giant ball-shaped fuel silos, marked on your map.
- When you cross the bridge and head into the refinery, hug the right-hand barbed wire fencing until you hit your first target. Blast everything you see until you go for the target. Once you are sure the coast is clear, send an ally to the staircase leading to the top of the fuel silo and set a charge (NOT a C4 explosive from the Spec Op kit, just hold A, as usual).
- Continue on like this through the refinery, bombing everything you see as you head to the other targets. There's not a lot of enemies here and they stop spawning soon enough; if you want a decent time record, just ditch the tank and hotswap amongst your Spec Op/Assault troops to mop up.
- Some of the fuel silos are going to require some serious exploration on the catwalk to reach. If you are stuck, try observing the top of the fuel silo, then follow the catwalk from its top to the nearest staircase, until you figure out a way to it.
- Make your way through the refinery until you set charges on all targets, then leave the refinery through the nearest exit.
Hotel Alpha
- You have to recon five hotspots, the fifth one appearing after completing all the others, after which you must return to base, all before time runs out. You start with a dune buggy that holds an artillery launcher manned by an engineer and a gunny. The launcher and machine gun have very limited turning range, making the dune buggy very vulnerable to side and rear attacks. Note that you can jack enemy vehicles left parked around the area.
- If you just want to beat this level with no trouble but minimal stars, you can just drive into the recon area and drive in circles until it's complete, then leave. Otherwise, what you want to do is ditch your braindead allies and steal one of the enemy's assault jeeps. These jeeps have both artillery and a machine gun that can rotate 360 degrees. Use the artillery to bomb enemy vehicles and the gunner to wipe out the troops. Each recon area has one of these jeeps present, so be sure to replace your jeep if it's starting to lose too much health.
- First drive to the hotspot on the far right, the closest one to your base. Drive through the two enemy gates, ignoring your foes, and turn left towards the first assault jeep. Kill all the troops near it before they can take it for themselves, then capture it and blast everything while parked in the recon zone. Once you are finished, drive off, hopefully leaving your allies behind.
- Next, drive to the closest hotspot. Use the jeep's firepower to wipe out the resistence, including a tank. Take recon and make a right out of this enemy base.
- Recon Area #3 is hidden in a crevice; it's marked by a tank wreck and an assault jeep (the game will let you know if you are close). Set C4 around the entrance to the crevice, then enter it and get recon. This causes a mob of enemies to spawn from behind; detonate the C4 to get rid of them, mopping up survivors.
- Drive through Recon Area #2 through an alleyway straight to the next recon area. You'll have to drive through another crevice to reach it. Use the machine to kill everything, and make sure the enemy does not steal the assault jeep parked outside.
- The last recon area will appear nearby, in a village. Blow up the tank, then drive in, get recon, and drive back to base when finished to end the level.
Top Man
- Get in the helicopter and fly to the landing zone. You'll want to approach it from the edge of the canyon, going low and rise only to go over the ridge. If you just fly straight to it, you'll get shot down by cruise missiles. Don't bother letting the AI fly the heli, it will just wander around and get it shot down.
- Once at the LZ, dip low and start shooting up the cars until the message to land says to. You'll get some massive multipliers in a hurry if you are good enough.
- Afterward, land to drop off the Spec Ops and return to the air. You'll need to incapicate the soldiers operating the cruise missile batteriess. You can do this from the heli or as the Spec Ops, climbing up the ridge and sniping them.
- Once all the cruise missile batteries are down, hotswap to the paratrooping Spec Ops and capture the ridge. Your mission is destroy the communications target, then cross the broken bridge to the other side, shooting all in your path. If you still have your heli, you can use it to achieve these objectives.
- When you get close to the target on the opposite side of the bridge, a Chinese commander will attempt to escape via heli. Shoot down his aircraft; a friendly heli will spawn if yours has already been shot down.
DMZ
- There are three village you must go to and capture. Take one of the assault jeeps to begin.
- Village #1: Just hotswap to a sniper manning a cruise missile battery and use it to bring down enemy aircraft. The battery works the same as the laser designator; target the vehicle and hold trigger until there is a lock-on. Use the assault jeeps to clear up any small fry.
- Village #2: There are ten or so enemy snipers lurking in this village, appearing one after the other. Track them down and kill/snipe them. If you can't find one even with the sniper's GPS Tracker, drive around in an assault jeep with a gunny. The gunny will shoot at the sniper when you get close. This is helpful when the enemy AI gets stupid and sits inside a building, wasting your time. After all the snipers are dead, be prepared for a massive ambush.
- Village #3: Follow the Assault troops into the village entrance, who will be spamming smoke grenades. Mow down all in your path to build up multipliers, then position troops on either grenade launcher turrets by the entrance. The enemy will keep funneling in and get slaughtered. Do the same for the pavilion past the first area. There's going to be a lot of foes here, but no surprises.
End of the Line
- This level is extremely straightforward. You will defend the compound from enemy forces coming in from the sides and the front. There's plenty of turrets to use to destroy the numerous aircraft and land vehicles, as well as slaughter all those coming down the hill.
- Once the timer expires, you will have stopped the onslaught. If you are having trouble, try upgrading your Health bonuses as well as using the sniper to down aircraft with the laser designator.
- Once the compound is secure, hotswap to the paratrooping soldiers in the distance. You'll want to hotswap to the man furthest down the track, so that he can man a turret and shoot down the train coming your way. Hotswap over to him and shoot at the train until it goes down; if you are fast enough it will wreck before it can even come close.
End Game
- Before the level, you are asked to choose which faction to play as: NATO or Chinese. The experiences are different for both.
- NATO:
- Defend the plaza you begin at. Pretty simple, grab a turret and mow down everything. There are tanks and choppers you can use if you like.
- Once the plaza is secure, head to the building with the three targets. You need to enter from the front of the building, not the fire escape. It will be safer if you go around the back rather than try to deal with all the fighting in the main courtyard.
- Go into the building and blow everything away as you make your way to the top floor, capturing each room as you do so. Watch out for cheap backspawners.
- Your goal is to plant explosives on the three targets fuel canisters in the building, one on each floor. Start with the top floor first, working your way down, so that you are not caught in the building when it blows.
- Go outside and man the turret overlooking the courtyard. Kill everything and after the building blows, a helicopter holding your target, Colonel Zhu, will appear.
- Just shoot down the heli with the turret. If it survives the first passover, keep blasting it until it goes down.
- Chinese:
- Hop in an assault jeep but don't follow the group over the bridge. Instead, make a right and follow the trench to a second, broken bridge. Drive over the gap in the bridge to jump to the other side.
- Drive to the target, hop out, and plant an explosive on the generator.
- Now return to the first bridge and take down all the enemies there. With the generator destroyed, they will stop spawning. Go after the tanks first.
- Once all the enemies are destroyed, Colonel Scott, your final target, will be flying about in his helicopter. Shoot it down; often times the heli will get blasted out of the sky by your own engineers before you can even find it.
Flying the Flag
- You will play through this level as either the USA faction or the Chinese faction, depending on your choice of faction in "End Game". If you wish to play as the other faction, you'll have to reload a previous save before you beat "End Game" and choose the other faction, or start a new campaign if you don't have a save.
- This level can be very difficult and requires some luck. There is a constant time limit. Each objective will have its own time limit attached to it, and they are all pretty tight. The enemies are extremely difficult, brutally accurate with their powerful shotguns and have permanent Armor bonuses in effect; they can survive a full core blast to the chest with your main weapons. You must go for headshots as they are otherwise often durable enough to simply march through fire and shoot you. Be sure also to use smoke grenades to throw their aim off.
- From the start as you paradrop, scope towards the fallen airplane wing and shoot the goons there before they can react and reach turrets. Don't be too surprised if the turrets from the west wipe all your men out right off the bat.
- Once you land, run left, hugging the edge of the map. You goal is to take the western turrets, climbing up the hilltops they are on and bushwhacking them. Don't be too surprised if your snipers get them first; they will actually be helpful AI on this level. With these turrets down, your allies can clear the bottom areas of foes for you.
- Go to the path between the two hilltop turrets towards western missile silo. It's heavily guarded by some annoying turret emplacements and plenty of endlessly spawning goons. Throw frags from behind the crest of the path to clear out many of the troops, then go to the right, behind the hill and out of enemy view, onto the main road going into the silo area.
- Before the enemy can recover, throw smoke grenades. They will cloak you from any gunners still around. Head for the open hatch and dive in.
- Follow the corridor downward, looking out for shotgunning goons. They are extremely dangerous; headshot them and try throwing frags/grenades around corners to eliminate the ones looking to clip you around the turns.
- The path leads to an open room with some crates in the center. Cap everyone from the corridor. If the coast seems clear, use grenades to thin out anyone in the crate room, then throw smoke grenades and go down to ensure it's clear. Make sure to watch your flanks.
- If the coast is clear, go ahead and set a charge on the metal plate thingy you've seen throughout this game. Once that is done, hotswap right where you stand out of the base. Your goal is to hotswap to the group of allies on the other side of the map.
- Go up the trail they are converging on to the second silo. Your goal is to get in the dome overlooking the silo. Inside, snipe from right to left all the gunners and other henchmen. The rightmost turret has a spawn point that produces infinite henchmen, but you can ignore it if the others are dead.
- Once the action has died down, head towards the hatch, going to the left around the silo bay door. Go inside and take the silo as you did the first one, and set the charge as before.
- Now you have to reach the tower on top of the central base before a new countdown expires. Your foot soldiers will disappear, to be replaced by tanks. The enemy is a real pain now; hordes of enemy gunners, tanks, and constant pestering from assault choppers that can easily lay waste to your tanks.
- Take control of a tank and bomb everything you can, so that the tanks can last at least a little while. With the enemy thinned out, drive straight towards the base, going to the right around the trees, firing your cannon at anything up there that moves. Don't go left as you'll just wind up putting up with endless respawners
- The tank will be eventually stopped by fortifications and you'll need to get out and run up the stairs ahead onto the catwalk. Once you hit the catwalk, spam smoke grenades constantly as you run, throwing them just a little ways down your path so you can slip in and out of smoke, increasing your chances of surviving. Follow the catwalk upwards and onwards towards the target.
- When you reach the target, Commander 31's armored tower, you will get a new radio message asking you to get a sniper to laser designate it. This will cause a sniper to spawn on a nearby tower. If you are killed, you will automatically hotswap to him if you managed to trigger that radio message.
- Your goal now as this sniper is to laser designator the target, which is Commander 31's tower. Immediately get out the laser designator and destroy it as you would any vehicle. You must do this fast; you will start this objective with a new countdown. The countdown reads as one minute, but it's actually less than that as the designator's bombs take a while to reach their target. Assault helis will pester you; pray they miss and keep trying to get a lock on that tower. If they kill the sniper, another will appear, but you may run out of time anyway. Once you get a lock-on, and if you have enough time left, the end cinema will trigger, and you will have won.
- There's a trick you can try with this level if you manage to hang on to a sniper after destroying the second silo. Wait for an assault heli to appear, then snipe the pilot with your armor-piercing bullets. It will land on the ground; you can then steal it and just fly to the tower, reducing the massive amount of risk involved in reaching it. Make sure to destroy any enemy tanks first before taking the heli.
Battlefield 2: Modern Combat Achievements:
Medal Achievements
- Air Force Cross: Campaign (20)
- Kill 10 enemies using air based vehicles without losing the multiplier.
- Best Level: "Heavy Tonnage" (Find an enemy boat and sink it, then quickly blast all the troops on the stern before losing the multiplier.)
- Army Cross: Campaign (20)
- Kill 10 enemies using land based vehicles without losing the multiplier.
- Best Level: "Air Traffic Control" (This is a very easy achievement to get as the land vehicles are very effective. If you haven't gotten the medal by this level, you most likely will if you stick with vehicles here.)
- Commando: Campaign (20)
- Kill 4 enemies in a mission using a Knife.
- Best Level: "Burning Bridges" (You'll need to unlock the Spec Op's combat knife first. Get a Health bonus going, then find a lone enemy and knife him. This level has plenty of Spec Ops to work with.)
- Expert Assault: Campaign (25)
- Kill 10 enemies using Assault Kit weapons without losing the multiplier.
- Best Level: "Submerged" (Another easy one, as the Assault trooper is an excellent fighter from any range. You'll most likely pick this up without trying during this level.)
- Expert Engineer: Campaign (25)
- Kill 10 enemies using Engineer Kit weapons without losing the multiplier.
- Best Level: "Rolling Thunder" (If you haven't gotten this one by this point, this level be your best bet. From the start, hotswap over to the engineers coming out of the barn. Run straight to the wood picket fence ahead and use it as cover; not even the tanks can hit you through it. Shoot everyone you see with your pistol, shotgun, and rockets; switch to another engineer if you are completely out of ammo. You also have the option of forcing engineers out of their tanks to help contribute.)
- Expert Sniper: Campaign (25)
- Kill 10 enemies using Sniper Kit weapons without losing the multiplier.
- Best Level: "Burning Bridges" (The same strategy towards beating the first area will work towards getting this medal. Hotswap to the sniper right at the start, blow up the heli with the laser designator from your hilltop, then snipe the four watchtower guards and everyone else below. They tend to congregate underneath the right-most watchtower, especially by the turret. If an enemy is using the turret, snipe him ASAP for an easy shot, likely to soon be replaced with another.
- Expert Special Ops: Campaign (25)
- Kill 10 enemies using Special Ops Kit weapons without losing the multiplier.
- Best Level: "Burning Bridges" (The Spec Ops have a great primary weapon, especially if it's upgraded. Just kill the heli and the watchtower guards at the start, then mow down all the troops coming from the bridge, from either side of the bridge gate.)
- Expert Support: Campaign (25)
- Kill 10 enemies using Support Kit weapons without losing the multiplier.
- Best Level: "Beach Party" (As you plow through the bunkers using the Support Troops, you should pick this up if you are quick and are not killed.)
- Expert Use of Mortar: Campaign (20)
- Kill 3 enemies and no allies with a single Mortar Strike.
- "Air Traffic Control": (Any number of opportunities to hit three enemies at once with a Mortar Strike, as well as in "Beach Party". You'll need to unlock Mortar Strike first, though.
- Grenadier: Campaign (20)
- Kill 20 enemies with grenades in a single mission.
- Best Level: "Rolling Thunder" (The grenade-launching turrets count. If you haven't gotten it yet by this point, just use the turret outside the helipad on the horde of enemies here until you've gotten it.)
- Marksman: Campaign (20)
- Kill 4 enemies with one clip of a sniper rifle.
- Best Level: "Headshot" (This is very easy, especially if you've upgraded the sniper rifle's clip size.)
- Mechanic: Campaign (20)
- Repair 5 allied vehicles in a mission using the Blowtorch, at least 1/3rd armour must be repaired.
- Best Level: "Radio Silence" (They will have to be 5 different allied vehicles; a vehicle you've repaired before will not count again. This level has plenty of humvees which are quick to repair, and you can even just damage them yourself. Just shotgun the engines until they are half-way destroyed, then repair them. You can also steal vehicles from the enemies, converting them to "allied" vehicles by entering them and now making them eligible for the repair count.)
- Medic: Campaign (20)
- Heal 4 allies without dying using the Auto Injector, at least 1/3rd health must be restored.
- Best Level: "Beach Party" (Since healing yourself counts, you can keep hotswapping between the Support Troops as they go up the beach, looking for those that are heavily damaged. When you find one, have him go prone behind cover while using the Auto Injector on himself. You don't need to wait for his health to heal before hotswapping, but do note that a healed ally must fully restore his health to count, and not die before the healing finishes.)
- Navy Cross: Campaign (20)
- Kill 5 enemies using water based vehicles without losing the multiplier.
- Best Level: "Submerged" (Steal one of the enemy boats and use the grenade launcher to start bombing the enemies running around the shore along with other boats. Near the beginning of the level one of the boats will dock, allowing you to easy take it.)
- Sapper: Campaign (20)
- Kill 20 enemies using C4 or Landmines in a single mission.
- Best Level: "Burning Bridges" (As you battle towards and across the bridge, just keep throwing C4 at the enemies and blowing them up. The big group near the bus wreck alone will net you 9 or so, possibly at once.)

Hotswap Challenges
The Ruins
- At the start, turn left, aiming for the soldier just below the ridge. Hotswap to him when the countdown ends.
- Turn right, hotswapping to the first soldier you can.
- Turn left, hotswapping to the first soldier you can.
- Turn right, hotswapping to the first soldier you can.
- Hotswap immediately for this soldier.
- Turn completely around and sidestep down the hill to the left till you can hotswap with the soldier.
- As the next soldier, sidestep to the right until you are able to hotswap to a soldier very far away.
- Immediately hotswap to the next soldier.
- Again, immediately hotswap to the next soldier.
- Yet again, immediately hotswap to the next soldier.
- Turn around and hotswap to the soldier on the church roof.
- Now hotswap to the soldier on the left of the pair.
- Hotswap to the soldier ahead on the landing pad.
- Hotswap back to the soldier you left from.
- Turn all the way around and hotswap to the soldier on the ridge.
- Hotswap to the soldier in the watchtower.
- Hotswap back to the soldier on the ridge.
- Hotswap into the soldier inside the hangar bay.
- Exit the hangar slightly so you can hotswap to the soldier way in the distance by a wall face.
- Turn a little to the left and hotswap to the soldier in the distance by the trees.
- Turn to the left and hotswap to the soldier at the base of the hill.
- Hotswap to the soldier you see on the church's ridge.
- Turn to the left and hotswap to the soldier on the village rooftops.
- Hotswap to the final soldier, right in front of you.
The Oil Platform
- Turn to the right and hotswap to the first soldier you see, on the island.
- Turn right and kill the soldiers for bonus time, then instead of following the series of hotswaps to the next target, just use your rifle's scope to spot him in the distance and hotswap straight to him.
- Kill the enemies, then hotswap to the next soldier on the tine roof immediately.
- Aim towards the next target and use the scope to find him and hotswap.
- Kill the two enemy paratroopers above you and to the left, then hotswap to the available soldier next to the leftmost paratrooper.
- March forward and to the right a little bit until you can hotswap.
- Hotswap to the paratrooping soldier.
- Hotswap ASAP as the paratrooper.
- Move to the right until you can hotswap to the soldier on the cliffside.
- Turn right and hotswap to the first soldier you can.
- Turn right and hotswap to the paratrooping soldier.
- As the paratrooper, use your scope to find a soldier way in the distance, on a dock. Hotswap to him
- As the soldier on the dock, turn right until you can hotswap to the soldier right on the steep cliff overlooking the river.
- You can hotswap to the next target soldier now. Turn left until you spot him.
- Hotswap ASAP to the next soldier without slowing down.
- Use the scope as the next soldier and hotswap through the tree branches to a soldier on a rooftop at the docks VERY far away.
- Hotswap straight down to the target soldier below, then kill the enenmy troops.
- Hotswap back to the soldier on the rooftop you were previously.
- Hotswap back to the soldier on the tin roof, the one you used after the second enemy ambush. Use the scope to find him.
- Use the scope to shortcut back to the very first soldier you were for this challenge, who is now the final target.
The Factory
- Aim your scope at the target in the distance. You should see two soldiers right next to each other. Hotswap to the one on your right.
- Step to the left as the next soldier so you can hotswap to the target soldier on the street below.
- Turn right until you can hotswap to the next target soldier, a sniper standing on the bridge gate.
- Snipe the two enemy snipers standing on the bridge tops ahead of you, then turn around and use the scope to hotswap to the target soldier, way in the distance on top of the church tower.
- As the next soldier, shoot the goons on the ground, then hotswap to the soldier on the ground that will give you a clear scope-enchanced view of the next target soldier.
- The final target is an engineer on a mountain top. Point your scope at the target and hotswap, then run left as you scope search for the target engineer.
- Before you can finish the mission, you must blow up an enemy heli. Just bomb it with RPG missiles from where you stand; it will mostly fly back and forth lazily firing missiles along its route.
The North Docks
- Use your scope to hotswap to the soldier on the roof of the docking bay.
- Step to the right to hotswap to the target soldier inside the docking bay.
- Hotswap back up to the soldier on the roof.
- Aim towards the target in the distance with the scope and hotswap to the soldier closest to it.
- Hotswap to the target soldier, an engineer.
- As the engineer, blow up the humvee. It's actually a bit dangerous to have a prolonged fight with it from where you are sitting; if you are having trouble, go down the stairs and use the metal sheets and tires as cover.
- Once it's destroyed, hotswap back to the soldier you were previously. If you are on the lower catwalk, you'll need to jump over the nearby railing and hotswap in mid-air towards him.
- Aim your scope towards the target and hotswap towards the closest soldier.
- Hotswap to the target soldier.
- Kill the paratroopers, then use the scope to hotswap to the next target soldier.
- Hotswap to the soldier on the docking bay roof again.
- Hotswap to the target soldier below on the ground.
- Hotswap back up to the soldier on the docking bay roof.
- Turn towards the far end of the docking bay roof and hotswap to the soldier there.
- Use the scope to hotswap to the final target soldier.
- Sink the boat to win this challenge.
The Plaza
- Right at the start scope towards the target and hotswap to him.
- Turn right and hotswap to the first soldier you see.
- Turn left and hotswap to the target soldier.
- Hotswap back to the soldier you were previously.
- Use your scope to hotswap to the rightmost soldier way up on high, on the ridge.
- Hotswap immediately to the soldier on the peak ahead as soon as you "land".
- Hotswap down to the target soldier, a pilot flying a heli.
- Destroy the two enemy choppers. Try to blow up the last heli from close to above the village near ridges where your previous hotswapped soldiers where; this will put you in a great position to hotswap to the next target soldier.
- Once the enemy choppers are down, you can hotswap to the target soldier on the village rooftop instantly if you are in the right position. If not, you'll need to hotswap along the ridge soldiers towards the target soldier on the roof of the village as it will take to long to fly to the target soldier.
- As the target soldier, blow up the tank using your rockets, then hotswap right back up to the soldier on the ridge. If you can't reach him, try jumping up in the air.
- Hotswap to the closest soldier on the ridge.
- Use the scope of your RPG launcher to hotswap to the soldier on the tin roof in the city. He should be just visible beyond your ridge.
- Scope towards the target to find another soldier to hotswap to.
- As the next soldier, scope towards the target soldier, then run towards him, around the trees jumping in the air, giving you just enough height to hotswap over the plateau right into him.
- Immediately turn around and shotgun the enemy troops, starting from the right and working your way left. Back away and move constantly to avoid getting shot.
- Once they are dead, hotswap to the soldier closest to you. As this soldier, use your scope to hotswap right to the target soldier.
- Use the scope of your RPG launcher to hotswap right to the target soldier, easy.
- Aim your scope at the target and there should be one soldier to the left way in the distance you can hotswap to. Do so.
- Turn and hotswap down to the final soldier.
The Village
- Follow the chain of hotswaps to the target soldier. You do NOT lose time for hotswapping for this first target soldier.
- Turn and scope into the distance with the rocket launcher towards the target, and hotswap.
- Hotswap to the next soldier.
- Scope towards the target and hotswap to the soldier in the mosque tower.
- Hotswap down onto the target soldier.
- Hotswap back up to the previous soldier.
- Quickly hotswap two soldiers dead ahead towards the target (no need to scope)
- Before you hotswap to the target soldier in the train station, switch to your rocket launcher.
- Hotswap back out of the train station back to the soldier you were previously.
- Back up and aim directly towards the target with the rocket launcher scope. If you position yourself correctly, you should be able to take a massive shortcut right to the target soldier.
- As this soldier, kill the soldiers with your turret, then hotswap immediately to the soldier across the ridge from you.
- Follow the chain of soldiers leading directly to the target with quick hotswaps, no scoping. The last one leads you on top of a ridge into the target soldier, hanging out at a base.
- Scope towards the target and hotswap to the soldier up on a building.
- From this soldier, hotswap right down to the target soldier, in a tank.
- Blow the enemy tank up, then hotswap asap to the soldier you were previously.
- Follow the chain of hotswaps, no scope, towards the target soldier. You'll be lead onto the ridge again, leading down into the small village in the valley.
- Follow the next chain of no-scope hotswaps, back out of the valley across the ridge. Skip the soldier in the tall tower and hotswap to the soldier to the left of him.
- As the next target soldier, hotswap back the way you came and again follow the path of no-scope hotswaps to the last target soldier, in another valley.
- Turn around and run into the valley, away from the enemies, shotgunning all in your path, then kill the rest guarding the entrance safely with rockets.
Race Challenges
HMMWV Humvee
- You must drive to each of the soldier's locations on the map, pick them up, then race back to the starting point. You do not have to stop at the starting point to drop them off, simply drive right through it.
- The Humvee can be destroyed if it takes enough damage by crashing into objects, so be careful and avoid driving through very tight alleyways. Just about anything can make it crash save for bushes, so be careful.
- The soldiers can also be killed if they are run over, although they are pretty good at dodging your humvee if it looks like they're about to get hit. When picking up a soldier, drive straight at him, then swerve out of his running path so that he jumps in while you are already turning around to head back to the starting point.
- The order of the soldiers you need to pick up is always random, save for the final soldier. For the soldier hanging out at the church on the hill, approach it from the base of the hill to the east and drive through the opening in the wall.
- The final soldier is always in the farthest reaches of the map, by the oil pipeline crevice. If your humvee still has a lot of health left, try exiting the town though the southwest road, then drive straight at the soldier's marker. Your humvee should make it over the hill and go crashing down the other side for a lot of damage and a big shortcut. After grabbing this soldier, drive up the snowy embankment right next to him, moving left to avoid the ruins up top.
Light Patrol Boat
- You must race along a path of checkpoints to the goal. In between each checkpoint is one bonus ring that adds to your score; you must collect all the bonus rings to even stand a chance.
- There are a few mines in the water that can damage your boat if struck, sinking it if it takes enough damage.
- Whenever possible, keep the boat going in a straight line, nailing bonuses and checkpoints without having to lose speed turning or adjusting.
- The boat makes very sharp, yet delayed turns. Start turning well in advance as you round corners and be prepared to right the boat once it lurches forward.
- The bonus rings can be annoying to collect. They must pass almost directly over your boat to be counted. It's easy to lose one by speeding past it without collecting it, so for those that are placed around corners, make sure to overcorrect a bit as you turn to ensure you don't miss it.
- It's also hard to spot the bonus rings due to the nature of the boat; it has a gun turret that blocks you view from the right. The darkness doesn't help. Try steering into bonus rings from the right, so that your view of it is not obscured, and look carefully for the bonus ring especially when the course leads you onto the ocean.
Eagle M.T.V.
- Similar to the Light Patrol Boat, except you will be driving this vehicle, making 3 laps around a course.
- The bonus rings this time are suspended far above the air, making them harder to track. You must instead try to drive through the very middle of the pair of drums the bonus ring is floating over; this ensures you collect the bonus.
- The final lap of the course deviates slightly from the regular course. Follow the final two bonus rings and from the last one, drive straight towards the finish line instead of making the usual right turn.
- This challenge is generally easier than the other races; take very tight turns, so that you travel from checkpoint to checkpoint quickly. The checkpoints are VERY forgiving, so keep that in mind as you wisk from one to the other.
- As long as you are fast in grabbing checkpoints (getting a lot of time bonuses each time), and do not crash, you can afford to miss a bonus ring, maybe two, and still get three stars.
Apache Attack Helicopter
- This is actually easier than it looks. Sure, there are loads of bonus "spheres" you must fly through in the tight canyons, and targets below. However, you can shortcut across the course for huge time bonuses, making this one easy if you can stand the heli controls.
- The reason why you can shortcut is because the "no-fly" zone permeating this area is not effective enough to prevent you from doing so. If you fly too high or low in this challenge, your pilot will lose health until you leave the no-fly zone. However, you can still slip in and out of the no-fly zone for some hefty shortcuts.
- First, you must select which heli controls you prefer in the pause menu by setting "Alternate Helicopter Controls" to "ON" or "OFF". "ON" is probably best for this course, and will be familiar to most gamers that have experienced similar helicopter controls. You may also want to the change the camera to third-person mode by pressing RB, which lets you spot your targets more easily.
- To begin, collect the bonus spheres as you head to the first two markers, spamming rockets at any cars milling about. Don't worry too much if you miss the cars below, just concentrate on the spheres.
- After the second marker, fly to the next bonus sphere, then go straight over the mountain, through the no-fly zone, into the next beacon.
- Turn towards the next canyon and again, fly over the mountain side to get the next checkpoint. You should have just enough health to make it.
- Now just hurry from checkpoint to checkpoint, blasting all the cars on the road as you pass them. Be on the lookout for an enemy assault helicopter near the end. He's worth a whopping 30000 points; do not miss him.
- The final checkpoint is a giant ring you must fly through. Do so to end the mission. If you took the shortcuts correctly you will have beaten the three-star time, in fact crushing it if you managed to snag a lot of bonuses, cars, and the helicopter.
BK-1990 Mobile Artillery
- You will drive this unwieldy artillery vehicle. As you progress from checkpoint to checkpoint, you'll see enemy vehicles you can shoot while driving.
- When you blast an enemy vehicle, the wreck it leaves behind can really get in the way. For this reason, you want to blast the vehicles usually only when you are close, so that their debris goes flying out of your way (this will also reduce a missed shot).
- After the fifth checkpoint, the course will lead you into water. The BK-1990 is miserably slow and almost impossible to turn in water. You want to get in the water at the last second, ignoring any bonuses it may cost you.
- If you can down the helicopter on the final stretch, you'll get a big bonus, enough to ensure a three-star.
Fast Attack Vehicle
- You are basically driving a Chinese assault jeep, in a "race" with other vehicles. They get in the way more often than they actually race, however, they can shortcut through the course.
- You do NOT have to win the race to get the three-star. However, if you lose the race, you will lose 25000 points. This can be circumvented by building up enough points through the bonuses to make losing the race irrelevant.
- The bonus rings float over the ground as they do with the BK-1990 race, but this time they are placed in tough spots: around curves, between explosive barrels, in tight squeezes, and even over a bridge you must drive underneath to get.
- The explosive barrels will kill you if you hit them head on, but you can sideswipe or fish tail into them with minimal damage and speed loss. Keep this in mind as you collect the bonuses.
- The three-star point threshold is a mass 310000 points, but the bonuses are worth 10000 a piece. If you can collect all the bonuses before hitting the fourth checkpoint, you'll have roughly 300K points already. You can then collect a few more to cushion your point total should you lose the race, then speed towards the remaining checkpoints.
- After the third checkpoint, you'll want to make a right into the alleyway and drive through the bridge support structures. This is how you get the bonus floating above the bridge. Make sure to drive around the park structures as you exit from underneath the bridge.
Weapon Challenges
Assault Rifle
- You have a limited amount of ammo per round to shoot the enemy soldiers as they pass through your field of fire. The amount of soldiers you need to shoot increases by one per round, starting at one soldier.
- In addition to limited ammo per round, the more shots you fire without striking your target, the lower your score. You'll want to hit each soldier without missing a full burst. Shoot them in fine aim mode, then release fine aim to find another soldier to shoot.
- The soldiers will always follow the same exact path to their exit, so try to anticpate their movements. If they are heading for the northern exit, chances are they will at some point run forward with their backs turned, making them easier targets.
- If you regularly score 9's or 8's when shooting your target (you should if you are not missing), then you can afford to lose one or two, possibly three soldiers and still get three stars.
RPG
- You have four soliders with RPGs; you must hotswap between each of them to destroy as many enemies and vehicles as possible.
- After you fire an RPG, you should be immediately hotswapping to the next soldier and fire as well.
- The value of each target per round increases depending on how many kills in a row you have achieved. This means that your general strategy should be to kill the following targets in order: the troops, then the cars and and boats, then the armored APCs, then the helicopters.
- Blowing up a heli after destroying all targets will next you massive points. If you can do this for a few rounds, you'll get the three gold stars for sure.
- Don't forget the boats, they are easy to destroy; just hotswap the soldier on the dock and shoot the boat as it tries to go underneath the dock.
Sniper Rifle
- You ride around in a chopper to five sniping points, shooting all five enemies with only five bullets per round. After Round 5, the chopper will begin again from the first sniping point.
- The rounds are timed; if you run out of time, it simply ends the round. However, every enemy you snipe adds as many points as there are seconds on the clock, so you must snipe them all as fast as possible if you want a decent score.
- The key is to anticipate where the intial enemies come from and immediately pop one when it runs out into view as the round starts. This gives you a big bonus and allows you to continue racking up big bonuses on your other marks. After nailing the first one, get the other enemies as soon as possible, getting them rapidly before the timer decreases substantially.
- It's imperative to do well in Rounds 1-5, because in the later rounds, they give you half as much time to work with, and thus half as many points.
- Note that Round 3 and 8 have paratroopers; don't miss them.
- If you are having trouble, try coming back to this one after you upgrade the ammo cap for the sniper rifle's magazine.
Frag Grenade
- The enemies below will line up literally like bowling pins. You have two grenades per round to bomb them with. They will flee if a live grenade lands amongst them and they have enough time to react; for the rounds where they are closer to you, you must cook your grenades accordingly.
- The first "strike" you make (i.e. killing them all in one shot) is worth 10000 points, after which each sequential strike will increase the bonus by 10000, for a maximum of 30000. If you miss a strike, the multipler is reduced by 10000, back to the minimum of 10000.
- To even have a chance of getting gold, you must "bowl" at least five strikes in a row, after which you can eke a three-star win if you bowl well enough to earn 8 to 10 thousand per round.
- The key is to always aim for the middle soldier. If the grenade blows up right where he stands, all of them will go down. For the first two rounds, put the "dot" of the crosshairs on his head, then aim upward, measuring about two and a half "lenghts" of the soldier's body, then throw the grenade when it's almost halfway cooked.
- With enough practice, you should be striking the first two rounds every time. Using that frame of reference, adjust your grenade tosses accordingly in subsequent rounds; the further away, the more "lengths" you should account for. When in doubt, overshoot the grenade, and give it only a minimal amount of cooking unless they are as close as they were in the first two rounds.
- There is a bonus round where the soldiers march to form an "E", then an "A", and then repeat. For this round, aim for the center man in the "A" formation.
Shotgun
- There are a vast set of spawning points around the village for both friendlies and enemies, the locations of which never change. You must shotgun the enemies; the enemies never shoot back nor move from their spawn points, but in later rounds, they do sometimes go prone.
- You will always start as the friendly in the center of the village. You definately want an ammo increase for the shotgun if you attempt this one. You can take control of other friendlies to find the enemies scattered about. Any friendly not under your control will walk back to his spawn point, if possible.
- Each enemy you kill adds points and time to the clock; the more time you have on the clock per round, the more points you get. This means you'll want to shotgun as many enemies as possible in a row as the round begins, that way you gain a lot of points in a hurry. If a friendly dies (they are especially vulnerable to falls), you will be hit with a time penalty.
- Every time you clear a round of all the enemies (without missing one), the amount of friendlies helping you decrease and the enemy spawn count will increase, till it's just the center soldier and another unhelpful friendly on the ground with enemies everywhere. If you miss some enemies in a round, the amount of enemies decreases and the friendlies increase, making things easier but reducing your scoring opportunities. You'll have to maintain a good streak in order to get that three star ranking.
- You must essentially memorize the location of every single spawn points on the map. When you begin a round, immediately look to the right at the corner building ahead. If there is an enemy, it will spawn immediately. Shotgun him right when the round starts for a nice instant point bonus, then check if there is an enemy to his right on a roof, and if not, pan left to get any enemies spawning on the other corner building or underneath the wood planks. Afterward, hotswap to the friendlies you know can get the best vantage points over all the other spawn points.
- As you run out of friendlies to work with, you will have to race over rooftops to get to some of them in a hurry, especially for the enemies in the back of the village. Use the makeshift wood board bridges and don't fall.
- If all you have are a couple friendlies on the ground, stick with the center man. With careful positioning and even a little jumping in place, he can nail almost everyone right from the center of the village save for the enemies on the rooftops in the back, directly behind him.
- The shotgun is, in fact, a terrible long range weapon, but you'll have no choice but to shoot from a distance with it. Try to keep the enemy in the center of the crosshairs as much as possible.
Heavy Machine Gun
- This is essentially a game of "zombies"; you shoot the incoming, knife-wielding Spec Ops with the machine gun before they can reach you. If they do, the challenge ends with whatever score you currently have (meaning that you can get the three-star rating despite not surviving).
- The number of Spec Ops spawn points increase per round, as do the amount of Spec Ops overall. Also, if you kill them fast enough, the round will spawn more Spec Ops than usual. Likewise, if you dally in killing them, you will be punished with less Spec Ops to shoot, which ensures survival but not a good score.
- The enemies all die in one bullet, no matter where they are shot. Keep this in mind for in later rounds it's critical to spend as little bullets as possible as having to reload will be fatal.
- Around Round 5, there will be a new spawn point in where a Spec Op will run across the bridge, going around to the other side behind your character. Do not make him a priority; he takes a long time to reach you, so just keep an eye on him as he runs past your line of sight, then clear out the Spec Ops that are the biggest threat before turning around to deal with him.'
- The most important thing is to not let the middle group of Spec Ops distract you, especially since they often line up so you can down several at once. The most dangerous are the flanking enemies, so sweep across the field looking for them, shooting the middle ones only when they start to close in.
