Battlefield 1943 Iwo Jima
Iwo Jima is an asymmetrical volcanic island off of the Japanese coast that was taken by the United States Marine Corps. in February of 1945. Melee fighting is an important part of succeeding in the hilly terrain at Iwo Jima. Coordinate with your team, and take the high ground as frequently as possible to obtain a strategic advantage. Mount Suribachi in particular is an important strategic location because it has a view of most of the other parts of the map. Use grenades to take out the guys in the bunkers before heading in to clear them out.
There are two contested hills at either end of Iwo Jima. One end contains in-game rewards, while the other provides a good vantage point for the five capture points outlined below.
- Fishing Village: Nearest to the USMC carrier, the Fishing Village is the prime landing spot for the Allied forces. Located in the foothills of Mount Suribachi, It is easily covered from Mount Suribachi's indestructible bunker. There are only a few small buildings in the Fishing Village, making the spot tough to defend.
- Lighthouse: The lighthouse, located on the northern side of the island, is closest to the Imperial Japanese Navy carrier. While a great hiding and sniping spot, it is also easily sniped or bombed from Mount Suribachi. The Lighthouse provides trenches that are useful for cover against attacking troops. Take out the bridge quickly to prevent tank movement. An M1919 Browning spawns in this location.
- Bunkers: Relatively isolated, the Bunkers is more convenient to the USMC carriers. This point is also easily defended with its low trenches and four indestructible bunkers equipped with M1919s. This is a great spot from which to attack the Airfield. Both hand and rifle grenades are effective here, and a single tank is capable of capturing the base.
- Mount Suribachi: The highest spot on the map, Mount Suribachi houses several bunkers, machine guns and sandbags. Offense against this area is difficult. It is an essential capture point for Scouts as well as for map domination. Sniping the Lighthouse and Fishing Village is easy from Mount Suribachi. The bunkers come equipped with chain guns, and an AA gun on one side. The tank that spawns should be used for defense; a car spawns here in addition to the tank. Parachute in and follow the path up the rear hill to take Mount Suribachi.
- Airfield: The Airfield is the most important capture point on the island. Surrounded by dense vegetation and large buildings, it houses two tanks, a tank recharging stand, an airstrip with extra airplane, a concrete air raid bunker near the airstrip, two guard towers overlooking the airstrip, and an AA cannon. Its capture point is located on a rooftop, making it very difficult to recapture. It is advised to take this capture point as quickly as possible with the assistance of an airplane. The tank will be useful in its defense. Head to the raised platform that is a spawn point for tank repair. Infantrymen are an important part of the equation here with its CQC combat.
Battlefield 1943 Coral Sea
The historic battle for Coral Sea took place in May of 1943. Surrounded by volcanic terrain, Coral Sea was the first battle in which aircraft carriers took on fighter planes directly, and is strictly a dogfighting ground within the game. Coral Sea was unlocked after all players collectively achieved 43 million kills. It features the Air Superiority game mode in which you need to shoot down all opposing fighters. Coral Sea features taller islands, each with several buildings. Fly under the natural bridges and arches that are scattered about the map. Four static aircraft carriers are spawn points, each side with two that spawn infinite F4U and Zero fighter planes.
