  • Batman: Year One was a 1987 four-issue storyline written by Frank Miller.
  • Synopsis

25-year-old Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham City after extensive training overseas. Confident to rid the city of its corrupt police officers and political figures, he plots to become a figure that criminals would fear.

After a grueling first night fighting crime, a bat crashes through Wayne's mansion window, giving him the inspiration to become Batman. Meanwhile, Detective James Gordon, the only honest cop in the city, becomes the target of his own police force.

Mafia boss Carmine Falcone, whose influence has ruined the city, orders a hit on Gordon's family. Batman, with the help of Selina Kyle (pre-Catwoman) and Harvey Dent (before becoming Two-Face), helps Gordon run Falcone out.

Batman: Year One was written as the updated Batman back-story after the Crisis on Infinite Earths rebooted DC Comics continuity. It was used as a primary source for Batman Begins in 2005.
