The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame was established to honor the greatest basketball players, coaches, referees, and other important figures to the sport. The hall of fame serves as basketball's ultimate historical library.
On April 6, 2009, Michael Jordan, David Robinson, John Stockton, Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan and Rutgers women's coach C. Vivian Stringer were named to the Basketball Hall of Fame. The Building
The Basketball Hall of Fame was established in 1959, eventually leading to an actual building which opened to the public in 1968 in Springfield, Massachusetts. In 2002, the hall moved to a new $45 million, 80,000 square foot home.
