Barry Levinson is an American film writer and director. His credits include Rain Man and Good Morning, Vietnam. His upcoming film What Just Happened?, starring Robert De Niro, premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.
Early Career
Levinson studied at American University in Washington DC and immediately after school moved to Los Angeles to explore writing and acting. His first writing gigs were on variety shows and later comedies such as Silent Movie and High Anxiety, but it was his directorial debut, Diner, in 1982 that earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay and put him on the map as a director. In 1988 Levinson clinched the Best Director Oscar for his film Rain Man starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise.
