• Baroque is a role-playing video game released on April 08, 2008. It was originally a manga series called Shinsyu Ueda. The series was made into a video game for the Sega Saturn console in 1998, remade for the PlayStation in 1999, and then again for the Playstation 2 and Nintendo Wii.
  • Story

A cataclysm known as the Blaze has annihilated the entire world, leaving behind a few scattered humans that exist in a shattered mental state. These humans are known as baroques. You play as the protagonist who awakens after the introductory scene, unable to speak and burdened by a strong sense of guilt for a sin you cannot remember. On your search to reclaim your memory and repent for this sin, you meet an Archangel who tells you to head to the bottom of a tower and atone for your sins to ultimately save the world.
  • Gameplay

The game is a dungeon-crawler. Its objective is to get through all the floors until you reach the end, kill enemies on the way, get stronger, and solve the mysteries. Similar to Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter, dying in the game does not end the game. When you die, you are restored minus any level gains or items. However, death is essential to progressing in the game and discovering side quests. You cannot exit the tower once you've entered (unless you die or successfully reach the bottom), but you can transfer some items to the Overworld (the area outside of the tower), where they are picked up by one of the townspeople and stored for your next incarnation. There are a variety of items from weapons to equipments to potions. All of these can be thrown as weapons. You can store up to twenty different items. Combat is pretty basic and is done in all real-time. Although you can run and have 3 different types of attacks, you cannot block or evade attacks. Different weapons offer different attack speeds or combo length. Weapons can also be fused together with items to produce various effects.
