Banned Books Week is observed annually at the end of September. The week-long observance began in 1982 and is organized by the American Library Association. During this week, attention is drawn to the censorship of books . The website of the American Library Association features a map that shows where complaints about books have come from and which regions have brought about opposition to particular writings. The map also gives a bit of background on the proposed banned books. For examle, in 2009, the interactive map revealed that classrooms in Manchester, Connecticut once stopped allowing Huckleberry Finn become people sent letters of protest to the town's local newspaper. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/29/banned-books-week_n_302572.html http://www.ala.org/ala/issuesadvocacy/banned/bannedbooksweek/index.cfm
