Banned books refer to literature that has been forbidden or censured. Reasons for book banning may be due to obscenity, graphic violence or because it has been deemed offensive. Schools, libraries, religious groups and communities sometimes seek to have books banned.http://bannedbooksweek.org/info.html
The last week in September of each year is Banned Books Week. The week long observance is organized by the American Library Association. In 2009, Banned Book Week begins on September 26th and ends on October 3rd.http://www.ala.org/ala/issuesadvocacy/banned/bannedbooksweek/
