History

Bangor continued to grow, and international lumber trade helped the economy. Around 1880, loggers headed out of the area and Bangor’s lumber business began to decline.http://www.city-data.com/us-cities/The-Northeast/Bangor-History.html A large portion of the city was destroyed by a fire in 1911 and the city had to rebuild.http://www.city-data.com/us-cities/The-Northeast/Bangor-History.html During the rebuilding effort, Bangor shifted its economy to wholesale and retail trade.
