Best All-Time Combination
Undoubtedly, the most successful offensive pairing in Ravens’ history occurred in 2000. After a brief flirtation with Tampa Bay, Quarterback Trent Dilfer returned to Baltimore, where the Ravens turned a tumultuous inaugural season into a Super Bowl Championship. After a season of personal tragedy, Wide Receiver Jermaine Lewis dedicated his flawless Super Bowl performance to his stillborn son, and the offense managed 34 points to the Giants’ 7. Ray Lewis walked away with MVP honors as well as the “Defensive Player of the Year” award. And the city of Baltimore got to paint the town purple as they embraced their new NFL squad.
In the 2009 season, the Ravens toppled the high and mighty New England Patriots in the AFC Wild Card game, where Baltimore’s defense was, once again, smothering. The Ravens went on to lose, in the second round of the playoffs, to their hotly resented rivals, the Indianapolis Colts.
Defense promises to be a key factor for the Ravens again in the 2010 season, when Baltimore will continue to seek vengeance against the Colts who abandoned them.
