On October 15, 2009, people around the world tuned into watch what was thought to be a 6-year-old flying in a run-away homemade "flying saucer" shaped balloon. The boy was found safe, hiding in the family's attic in Fort Collins, Colorado. Inconsistencies in the story given by storm-chasing/ reality TV show star Richard Heene led many to believe the entire incident was a publicity stunt or hoax.

Lots of people think the sheriff was naive and claimed he wouldn't charge the family. I think they were laying low so that the family didn't expect anything. They put on a press conference 'show' so to speak. They probably didn't want the family trying to delete their links on "how to cause a public outrage using ufo stunts" on their computers :P

They did a good job. They didn't waste time in charging the family or surprising them at 1:00am for a raid. Good job guys.
