Ball State University is a public four year institution of higher learning located in Muncie, Indiana with over 21,000 students enrolled each year. Ball State University History
Ball State University was established as Indiana State Normal School Eastern Division in 1918. The school was renamed Ball Teachers College in 1922, to honor Frank C. Ball and his family. The Ball family were the original benefactors that purchased, then donated, the land and buildings to the state of Indiana. Ball State University Facilities
Ball State has a 660-acre campus, where approximately 100 buildings reside. In order to house the approximately 8,000 students who live on campus, there are also eleven residence buildings and two apartment complexes. Beneficence (known as "Benny"), a symbol of Ball State, was the last commissioned work of Daniel Chester French, best known as the sculptor of the Abraham Lincoln statue in the Lincoln Memorial. The statue was commissioned by the citizens of Muncie to honor the Ball family for its generosity and support.
