  • Baldwin Spencer, a member of the United Progressive Party, is the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda. He assumed office on March 24, 2004.
  • Biography

    Baldwin Spencer was born October 8, 1948, in Green Bay, St. John's, Antigua. He attended several colleges and universities: Coady International Institute, Ruskin College, Oxford University, Oslo University. Baldwin began his political career in 1989, when he entered Parliament. He has served his constituents for two decades, not only in political office, but also through many community positions, including Ex-Officio Member and Advisor of the King George V Restoration Society, The Antigua Cricket Association, Executive Member of the Past Pupils and Teachers Association of the Greenbay Government School.

    Baldwin also served in various positions in the Trade Union Movement: 1st Vice President of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU), Assistant General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union, Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives and President of the Caribbean Maritime and Aviation Council.

    During Baldwin's time as the Prime Minister, he has served on an international level in various positions: Chairperson of the Group of 77, Chairmanship of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations within CARICOM and Chairman of the Caribbean Community. He has also received several awards and was the first leader to be awarded Millennium Development Goals Achievement Award in September of 2008.

    Spencer has implemented many policies and programs during his time in government, the following being only a few of his accomplishments:

    1. Established a school meals program
    2. Helped in the creation of Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous program
    3. Successfully worked to provide piped water and electricity to areas who had previously been without
    4. Significantly improved sanitary conditions
    5. Helped to establish a monthly food package delivery through the Elder Care Program
