Baklava

Baklava is phyllo dough wrapped around a sweet, nutty filling. It was popular during the Ottoman Empire and has come to be associated with Turkey, although its origin is a subject of some dispute. The dish was used as a test for pastry chefs during the Ottoman Empire. It was viewed as an aphrodisiac, and different versions were made for men and women.

Origin In Dispute

There is much debate as to the origin of baklava. Its origin has been cited as Greece, Turkey, Assyria, and Mesopotamia. A similar dish has been found in a Chinese cookbook.
