    • Also known as a jacket potato
    • Putting oil and coarse salt on a potato before baking will make it fluffier
    • Wrap in foil to keep moist (excluding microwaves)
  • Baked Potatoes are the result of Baking, microwaving or Grilling a potato until the center is fluffy and fork tender.
  • Getting Ready to Bake

It is important to clean the potato before cooking. Potatoes grow under ground and usually come with alot of dirt. Once cleaned prick the potato with a fork, this allows air to escape, keeping the potato from exploding under pressure.

  • Cooking Time

Using a conventional oven for baking will take between one and two hours at 350º. Microwave ovens are quicker only taking about six minutes, but using this method does not give you a crispy skin.

  • Variations

Some people like to scoop out the fleshy part of the potato adding it to a bowl then mixing in cheese, sour cream, chives and other fixings of choice. The mixture is then added back into the potato skin, wrapped in foil and put back into the oven until the cheese is melted. These potatoes are often called, loaded potato skins, filled potatoes or twice baked potatoes.
