The Bahamas are a group of islands in the Caribbean, the closest being just over 50 miles off the coast of Florida. The economy of the islands thrives off of tourism and it is quite popular for cruise lines to offer one or more of the islands as part of their "island retreats." Bahamas Vacation Attractions
Beaches, water, warm weather and lots of sun: this is what brings people to the Bahamas. The waters surrounding the islands are home to the worlds third largest barrier reef and almost 15 percent of the worlds coral. There are hundreds of islands, but one of the most popular for a Bahamas vacation is probably Grand Bahama Island. Attractions include both natural and man-made wonders. The Peterson Cay National Park is a smaller island, only a short boat ride away from the Grand Bahama, and is full of protected marine life and habitat, making for a great day excursion.Bahamas Festivals
Each island is said to have it's own unique culture and heritage. This helps make each local celebration incomparable to others. The Junkanoo is actually one of the few events that is observed throughout the islands. It's a fusion of New Orleans Mardi Gras and Rio de Janeiro's Carnival. The capital of Nassau, located on New Providence Island, is said to have to most "spectacular" parade. The festival itself is held at different times throughout the year: Grand Bahama Island holds it on New Years Day and a few of the other islands celebrate the day after Christmas.Mahalo Suggests
