Mehdi Army
The Mehdi Army is an extremist Shiite group loyal to cleric Muqtada al-Sadr. They took control of the Adib al-Jumaili mosque in 2007 without any resistance from coalition forces. Using the mosque as a base of operations, the group captures Sunni and Shiite Muslims alike. How they picked their victims is not known.
