A bagel slicer is a kitchen gadget used to slice bagels evenly. It consists of a frame to hold the bagel in place and a blade which is either part of the frame or slides through it to slice the bagel in two or three pieces. They are available in a variety of different colors, styles and finishes and at a number of different price points.
Buying Guide
The cheapest bagel slicers consist of a frame with a slit to allow space for a bread knife. These slicers provide some protection from the knife and also create even slices. If a person is careful they can get similar result from just the bread knife. Bagel slicer frames start at about six dollars.
More expensive bagel guillotine styles have a guillotine type blade that slides through the bagel. These do not require the sawing that is needed when working with bread knives. Guillotine bagel slicers are fast slicers and are easy to use. They are the types that are used commercially. A popular bagel guillotine model is the Bagel Biter which start at $19.95.
