Backbreaker isn’t a wrestling video game as the title let us think, instead is an American Football simulation video game developed by NaturalMotion and published by 505 Games for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, iPhone and iPad. The game was released on June 1, 2010 and its rated E for Everyone. What makes this game so special is the NaturalMotion Euphoria Engine which enhances the gameplay by allowing the player to test true-to-life action, since the engine is generating real-time tackles, not playbacks. The same engine was used in Grand Theft Auto IV and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
Gameplay
Besides the intuitive moves provided by the new engine used, Backbreaker was especially designed to sustain the gameplay by a new camera. The player will see the field from different angles which will help him to feel like a real player. In the Multiplayer Mode, up to 22 players can compete in 11 Vs. 11, but the game also lets the player to play with his friends in the Split Screen Mode. Backbreaker provides a Replay System allowing players to review each move and each touchdown. These replays also record the behavior of the fans. In Evasive Mode the player can dodge to avoid incoming threats while in the Aggressive Mode the players can run faster and hit harder. New players, that never played this type of games should try the Arcade Mode because of its intuitive pick-up–and-play.
Series
Backbreaker, is the first game of the franchise developed by NaturalMotion. As of June 2010, there was no official news that a new episode will follow after this release.
