A baby swing is a small swing made for infants to help calm and entertain them. They have padded seats with straps to ensure the safety of the infant. It may swing either front-to-back or side-to-side, allowing the infant to be comforted whichever they prefer. Many provide toys or built-in mobiles which have lights and sounds to also entertain the baby while she is swinging. The baby swing may be part of a larger set sold by the manufacturer, featuring a specific pattern or theme. In the past many swings were crank powered, but most recent swings are powered with batteries. Parents are warned not to leave a baby unattended in a swing due to the possibility of malfunction or injury.
