Baby Bathtub

A baby bathtub is a device used to give an infant, or toddler a bath. It may be a self-standing bathtub that is able to be filled with warm water or it can be a device that is placed inside a normal bathtub to provide support for the baby. Both types of baby bathtubs are designed to place the baby at an incline, keeping his or her head out of the water.

It is recommended that a regular bathtub should not be used until the baby is able to sit up on their own, usually about six months of age. Until then, it is safer to use a baby bathtub to bathe your baby. A baby bathtub makes bath time enjoyable for you and your baby as a small bathtub can be placed within easy reach for a parent. They can be used in the kitchen sink or another large sink, on a countertop, on a table, in a regular size bathtub or on the floor. Where ever you would find it most comfortable and convenient.

What you will find when shopping for a baby bathtub are that there are hard plastic tubs, foldable tubs, inflatable tubs, tubs that are contoured and tubs that are lined with a soft sponge. What you should look for in a baby bathtub is that the plastic is thick enough that it won’t buckle for the babies weight or the weight of the water, than the foldable tubs are sturdy and won’t fold when in use, does it accommodate a growing baby, that the plug is at the bottom for ease of draining and make sure that there are no rough edges. http://www.babycenter.com/0_how-to-buy-a-baby-bathtub_1007.bchttp://www.consumerreports.org/cro/babies-kids/baby-toddler/baby-bathtubs/baby-bathtub-buying-advice/index.htm

Warnings have been released stating that baby bathtubs may give a false sense of security, with some parents believing that they can turn their back on the infant. Even the smallest of infants can move causing the tub to tip over or the baby to turn and be placed under water. Parents are warned that they should never leave a baby unattended while in any type of bathtub. Guardians should make sure to have at least one hand on baby at all times. No matter how safe or sturdy the tub seems, there is always a possibility for disaster.
