Babes in Toyland were a Minneapolis-based all-girl Alternative Rock band.
Career
Babes in Toyland, part of the Minneapolis Scene that had spawned The Replacements and Husker Du, played music that was stylistically comparable to the Seattle Grunge movement. They were associated with the Riot Grrrl sub-genre of Punk by others, but never claimed that affiliation for themselves. Their biggest hit, Bruise Violet, was thought by many to be an attack on Hole singer Courtney Love, but was in fact about a woman who creatively inspired both Love and Babes in Toyland singer Kat Bjelland. Babes in Toyland dissolved in 1997.
