Awamori

  • Awamori is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from Thailand rice. It comes exclusively from Okinawa in Japan. Black koji mold is often included in the making of Awamori. http://www.okinawa-awamori.or.jp/english/history.html<ref>
  • Serving Information

Awamori is made strong; usually around 30% alcohol or even as high as 60%. Exported wines are slightly weaker; around 25% alcohol. It is similar to Sake, though it is distilled rather than brewed. It is most commonly served in a glass with ice and watered down, though it is also common to be consumed straight on the rocks, or mixed into other drinks. The drink is mildly flavored and smooth, though some rice taste does remain. Awamori is commonly enjoyed by itself, and is well known by it's claim that it does not bring a hangover. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Awamori ref.http://www.okinawa-awamori.or.jp/english/mature.html#2</ref>
