Avatar is the latest movie by James Cameron, which he both wrote and directed. Avatar was scheduled to be filmed directly after Cameron's previous movie, Titanic. Technical limitations in Special Effects caused Cameron to postpone the movie at that time. Cameron started working on the movie again after seeing Gollem in The Lord of the Rings movies in 2002. At first, the working title of the movie was Project 880.

Avatar follows former Marine Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, as he travels to distant world Pandora, to participate in a body-transfer experimental project. Pandora is a jungle-covered moon filled with beautiful and terrifying life forms. The native population are the Navi, a blue-skinned species that resemble humans, despite being over three meters high, and having tails. As Jake Sully gets transformed into a Navi-avatar, he comes into contact with the Na'vi, and learns of their conflict of interest with the invading humans. On December 16, 2009 the highly anticipated big budget movie by director James Cameron, Avatar, premiered in Hollywood, California.
