Costumes are often inspired by pop-culture and movies, so expect to see the blue Na'Vi alien costumes from the movie Avatar during Halloween 2010.
The Na'Vi aliens, who live on the planet Pandora, were a race of tall, blue-skinned humanoid beings. They had tiger-like stripes on their skin and had large yellow-gold eyes. Most of them had braided hair and they all had cat-like ears. Their faces also had iridescent 'freckles' or spots. Their noses were also cat-like and the female Na'Vi, Neytiri, hissed like a cat when she became angry.http://www.vanityfair.com/online/oscars/2009/12/brushing-up-on-navi-the-language-of-avatar.html
The blockbuster Avatar was released on December 18, 2009, and upon its release, there was already Oscar buzz. The epic sci-fi film features human-hybrid aliens, controlled remotely by the mind of humans placed in pods. The Avatar DVD was released on April 22, 2010.
A number of costumes inspired by the film have been released for the 2010 Halloween season. The costumes come in all sizes, and are available for both men and women. Individuals looking to create their own Avatar inspired costumes can use a variety of designs and materials to dress up like their favorite character from the movie. In-depth makeup tutorials can create a more authentic look, and can be done with either face paints or cosmetic makeup.http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=avatar+costume&aq=f
Make Your Own Na'vi Avatar Costume
Although retail stores will likely have Avatar costumes for both children and adults, it should be easy enough to try making at home.
For an Avatar costume, you'll need some Halloween makeup, regular clothes and maybe a wig. Avatars and Na'vi alike typically had very long brownish black hair that was swept back off the face and forehead, tight against the scalp, and then braided or dread locked in back (depending on the character). The hair braids often are decorated with small colorful beads.
Though the "real" Na'vi wore native clothes made from feathers and beads, like Neytiri, (played by Zoe Saldana). The main Avatar in the story, Jake Sully, wore khaki pants and a brown t-shirt/jacket in the beginning of the movie (until he began wearing native "clothes"). The two supporting Avatar characters, Dr. Augustine, (played by Sigourney Weaver) and Norm Spellmen, (played by Joel David Moore) wore shorts, camp shirts, tank tops, and flannel shirts. At one point in the movie, the Avatars even wore hospital gowns.http://www.avatarmovie.com/

How to Do Avatar Na'vi Eye Makeup
This is an excellent tutorial on how to do "Na'Vi" eyes. The expert in this Avatar makeup tutorial, Michelle Phan, uses large, cat-like contact lenses for an extra affect.
Dr. Augustine's Avatar
In this photo, Dr. Augustine's avatar (played by Sigourney Weaver) is shown. For the purposes of costuming as Dr. Augustine's avatar, costumers should note the red, yellow, and green hair beads attached to braids out front and the beaded necklaces with a large pendant.
Neytiri 'Avatar Make-upTutorial
This video features a step-by-step tutorial on creating the Neytiri look using makeup. In it, cream face paints were used to lay a foundation over the face. Then, pencils and liquid liners were used to add details to the blue face once it had dried.
