  1. 1979: First store opened in Forrest City, Arkansas
  2. 1981: Express Parts/VDP implemented
  3. 1984: Implemented a quality assurance program for parts
  4. 1986: Expanded throughout the South and Midwest
  5. 1988: Changed named to AutoZone
  6. 1989: Implemented a computerized system
  7. 1995: 1,000th store opened
  8. 1998: Acquired 112 more stores
  9. 2001: Steve Odland became CEO
  10. 2004: Celebrated 25th anniversary
