An autopsy, or post-mortem examination, is a medical doctor's examination of a deceased body. It's conducted in order to obtain information as to the cause of death, the nature of any disease present or the effectiveness of medical treatment that was attempted before death. An autopsy is most usually performed by a medical specialist in this field called a pathologist, immediately following the death.
