The Australian owe their American popularity to Mr. and Mrs. Milton Fox. This delightful couple, who owned the Pleasant pastures dog kennels, were the first people to bring the Australian terrier to America. The first Australian terriers were brought to the United States around 1949 and the Australian Terrier Club of America was formed in 1957.
One year later, the Westminster Dog Show had the cute little Aussies classed as miscellaneous and they were an instant hit. Two years later, in 1960, there were 58 Australian Terriers on display and they were immediately admitted into the registry of the American Kennel Club.

Sports or Activities
The Australian terriers were originally bred for hunting small animals. Modern day Australian terriers are used for companionship as they are loyal and affectionate. Their innate hunting sense does however still come out as they have a tendency of chasing small animals, such as squirrels and rabbits. The Australian Terrier Club of America: Characteristics
If you live in a small apartment, you will need to give your pet a daily walk to burn off the excess energy that they have. If you keep an Australian Terrier pent up for too long, you will have an aggrivated, restless dog who may tear up your apartment, if you leave them alone. Daily activity and regular walks are reccommended.http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/australianterrier.htm
