Austin Kearns is an outfielder for the Washington Nationals. After a standout high school career, Kearns was offered a scholarship at the university of Florida, but he declined in order to pursuing professional baseball. The Cincinnati Reds selected Kearns with the 7th overall selection in 1998 amateur draft. After four years in the minors, Kearns made his major league debut on April 17, 2002. I his first full year in the majors, Kearns hit .315 Batting Average, with 13 Home Run, 56 Runs Batted In, and finished 3rd in Rookie of the Year voting. After four and a half seasons in Cincinnati, the Reds traded Kearns to the Nationals with Felipe Lopez and Ryan Wagner, in exchange for Gary Majewski, Royce Clayton, Bill Bray, Brendan Harris, and Daryl Thompson.
Strengths
Kearns is a reliable defensive outfielder, with a strong throwing arm. At the plate, Kearns hits for power, and excels against lefties.[1]
