• Culture

  Not only is Austin the capital and therefore political center of the state, it is also known for being the "Live Music Capital of the World" (the city's official slogan). It's downtown is rife with music clubs, and every year the city hosts one of the biggest gatherings of musicians, filmmakers and all sorts of creative types at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival (not to mention other annual events which include the Austin Film Festival and the Austin City Limits Music Festival. You will also find a statue tributing the late blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan in Austin.

  The University of Texas is based in Austin, therefore making the Longhorns their favored sports program since there are no National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association or National Hockey League teams in the city. Some famous Austinites include Wes Anderson, Lance Armstrong, Sandra Bullock, Ethan Hawke, Lyndon B. Johnson, Nelly, Willie Nelson, Richard Linklater, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
