Audi introduced the mid-engine R8 in
2007 after a year of previewing demo models at car shows around the world. The R8 is built on the same platform as the
Lamborghini Gallardo and shares it's name with the successful
Audi R8 Race Car. Some of the advanced technical features of the R8 include
Quattro permanent all-wheel drive,
FSI engine technology,
Audi Magnetic Ride suspension and a
Bang and Olufsen sound system. The R8 received much critical acclaim after it's unveiling including
Playboy Magazine's Car of the Year 2008,
Top Gear's Car of the Year 2007 and
Automobile Magazine's Automobile of the Year 2008. Competitors to the R8 include the
Porsche 911,
Aston Martin Vantage,
BMW M6 and
Nissan GT-R.
