Auburn University is a public institution of higher learning located in Auburn, Alabama. It is the largest university in the state, and a member of the Southeastern Conference athletics league.
About Auburn
Originally called East Alabama Male College in 1856, the university underwent several name changes and overcame financial hardship throughout the years. In 1892, the school admitted its first woman and organized its first football team. With an initial enrollment of 100, the university has grown to an average enrollment of 24,000. In 2006, Auburn was ranked 39th among public universities nationwide on the "America's Best Colleges" list in U.S. News & World Report.
