Indie pop trio Au Revoir Simone met while traveling on a train from Vermont to New York City. Their debut album, Verses of Comfort, Assurance and Salvation was released in the UK in 2005 and America the next year. They followed up with the 2007 album The Bird of Music, released by Universal Music Group.

All three members of Au Revoir Simone play keyboards and sing in the band, giving the albums an warm, dreamy, even other-worldly sound they have dubbed "synth-lead alt-folk." They are frequently compared to other bands making inviting electronic music featuring female lead singers, such as Stereolab or Broadcast, and cite Modest Mouse, The Mountain Goats, David Bowie and Belle and Sebastian as personal influences.
