Attila the Hun

Attila the Hun (406-453 A.C.) was leader of the Huns and was known for his bloody conquests throughout Europe to acquire land and money. He became known as the "Scourge of God" because many believed he was sent by God to punish people for their sins How Stuff Works: Attila (2008). Attila attacked the Holy Roman Empire three times throughout his rule, stretching the Hunnic Empire west into France and east into Kazakhstan. He died on his wedding night either from poison or from heavy drinking. History Channel: Attila (2004)

  • 433: Becomes co-ruler of Huns with his brother
  • 441-442: Attacked Balkans
  • 443: Attacked Constantinople
  • 445: Murdered brother to become absolute ruler of Huns
  • 451: Defeated in the Battle of Chalons in France
  • 452: Invaded Italy
  • 452: Pope Leo I persuades Attila not to attack Rome
  • 453: Attila dies on his wedding night to German Ildico
