  • Career Overview

Cox grew up in the musically prodigious community of Athens, Georgia, and was inspired by the city's 1980s and 1990s alternative music scene as a young man. While still in elementary school, Cox and friend Lockett Pundt began making home recordings using a cassette karaoka machine under the name "Atlas Sound."

Cox put the project to the side after founding the psychedelic rock quintet Deerhunter with Moses Archuleta in 2001, but shifted focus back to Atlas Sound during the band's 2007 hiatus. He released his first solo album under the name in 2008.
