March 2008 Atlanta Tornado
A tornado tore a path of destruction through downtown Atlanta, Georgia, on March 14, 2008. The twister, which struck at about 9:45 p.m., damaged several buildings, including the Georgia Dome and CNN's Atlanta headquarters. At the time the tornado struck, thousands of people were inside the Georgia Dome, attending a Southeastern Conference Tournament game between Mississippi State and the University of Alabama. The storm prompted an hour-long disruption in the game as debris fell from the rafters onto the court. The game between the University of Georgia and the University of Kentucky, scheduled to take place later in the night, was postponed.
