Atlanta Flooding

  • Torrential rains prompted flooding in and around metro Atlanta, Georgia, in September 2009. Waters began rising on September 20 and flooding peaked on September 21, 2009.   • School Closings

    Because of the severe flooding in Atlanta, several school systems delayed opening or remained closed on Monday, September 21, 2009. Schools in the following counties were closed:

    • Gwinnett
    • Douglas
    • Paulding
    • Carroll
    • Stephens
