The Atkins Nutritional Approach, commonly known simply as the Atkins Diet, is a diet created by Dr. Robert Atkins.
Dr. Atkins was a physician and cardiologist who believed that refined carbohydrates, such as sugar and flour, was a major cause for obesity. Foods high in protein such as beef, poultry, pork and seafood are acceptable to eat while on the diet.
By cutting out carbohydrates and eating more protein the body's metabolism will burn off stored body fat.
