Asus eee PC Reviews
You won't get much in the way of hardware for just over £200, but the Eee PC shouldn't be written off. It uses an Intel Mobile Celeron-M ULV 900MHz CPU, which is designed for long battery life rather than hardcore number crunching. The Asus version ships with 512MB of RAM as standard, though other resellers such as RM offer versions with 256MB of RAM. If you intend to tinker heavily with the machine or install Windows, we'd recommend getting the 512MB model.
One of the machine's biggest selling points is the fact it uses a solid state hard drive (SSD). The largest model Asus supplies is 4GB, 33 per cent of which is already in use when you buy the machine.* Again, some manufacturers offer a 2GB SSD and it is possible to connect a large memory card to the SD card slot for extra storage.http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/laptops/0,39030092,49293507-1,00.htm
The Eee PC 1005HA is also cheaper than the 1008HA, with a starting price of around $389. And it’s thinner and lighter than the Eee PC 1000HE which it’s designed to replace. It also replaces the 1000HE’s matte display with a glossy, glare-reflecting screen. But if you can look past that, the Eee PC 1005HA has a decent keyboard and touchpad, average performance, and one of the best batteries I’ve seen on a netbook to date, which makes the 1005HA a welcome addition to the Eee PC family.
I’m not sure there are enough new features to warrant upgrading from an Eee PC 1000HE, but if you’re in the market for a new machine the Eee PC 1005HA is certainly worth checking out.http://www.liliputing.com/2009/06/asus-eee-pc-1005ha-review.html
I wanted to try out the latest and greatest Ubuntu distribution in comparison with my last Ubuntu netbook experience, and thus we have a very brief anecdote of the experience of Ubuntu 9.04 on the 1000 HE, detailed in the below paragraph.
I was happy to find that the problems I had on my old Acer Aspire One with 8.10 were completely nonexistent. Wireless networking worked perfectly (if only with a little bit of tinkering depending on the network), there were no battery-to-AC-transitioning hiccups/screen glitches, and none of the components stopped working mysteriously as some had before. Bluetooth worked without any tweaking, but the camera didn't work with a default install. The system was speedy with little wait, even with full graphics enabled and using OpenOffice.org and Firefox. With a quick look-over, the system works flawlessly, and I'm very pleased with the apparent improvements over 8.10. If the desktop version works this well on the 1000 HE, then I can't wait to use the netbook remix. That's next on my list of testing to do.http://www.osnews.com/story/21433/Review_Asus_EeePC_1000_HE
