Assassin's Creed is a 2007 action-stealth game set in the year 1191 during the Third Crusade. The game was developed by Ubisoft Montreal, and published by Ubisoft. It was first released on the Xbox 360 and PS3, and six months later on PC.
In the game, the player takes on the role of two characters. In the near future (2012), ordinary man Desmond gets kidnapped by a company called Abstergo. He is used as a test subject for the Animus, a device that allows viewing of a person's genetic memories of his ancestors. With this device, the player visits the Holy Land in 1191, during the Third Crusade, reliving the memories of Altaïr ibn La-Ahad, an assassin. Altaïr takes part in a fierce but secret battle between Assassins and Templars over a religious object, called the "Piece of Eden"
The game has generally received positive reviews, with its graphics, control scheme, replay value, and storyline as main positive points, while pointing out its repetitiveness as its main drawback. The PC version of the game improves on this repetitiveness. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/27754.htmlhttp://gamepro.com/microsoft/xbox360/games/reviews/146348.shtml
The game contains a number of historical references. Altair visits three historical recreated cities Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus. The assassination targets are based on real characters from around 1191 in these cities, including Regent of Jerusalem Majd Addin, Garnier de Nablus, Damascus scholar ‘’Jubair al Hakim’’, Abu'l Nuqoud, and the Regent of Acre, William V, Marquess of Montferrat http://assassinscreed.uk.ubi.com/assassins-creed-1/home.php#/devdiary/
In November 2009, Sony released a PSP follow-up named Assassin's Creed Bloodlines, which also featured Altaïr, but on a different location, serving as a bridge episode between Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed 2.http://www.gamerankings.com/psp/958338-assassins-creed-bloodlines/index.html
Also in November 2009, the sequel Assassin's Creed 2 was released.
Story
In Assassin's Creed you assume the role of Altair, a 12th century hooded assassin and member of the Hashshashin. Your mission in the game is to assassinate nine different public figures active in the Third Crusade. The figures are located in Palestine, in four different main cities: Jerusalem, Acre, Damascus and Masyaf. The Crusade-era cities are extremely detailed, full of citizens that go about their daily lives, finely crafted buildings, and cityscapes that stretch into the distance. Altair is an expert assassin, and has various abilities at his disposal: sword fighting, climbing to the tops of buildings, silently killing enemies with a hidden knife, pickpocketing, and other abilities you gain as you progress through the game.
