Plot
During the Third Crusade in 1190 AD, Crusaders are battling with the Saracens for control of Jerusalem, the Holy City. Altair, a young assassin, begins the game fighting off the Templars upon his return home to Alep. After winning the battle, he is asked to retrieve the Chalice. It is believed that whichever side has possession of the Chalice will be able to unite the dividing factions under their control and claim victory in the Crusade.
Gameplay
Assassin's Creed Altair's Chronicles makes full use of each feature of the Nintendo DS throughout its 7-10 hours of gameplay. Gameplay is a combination of acrobatic action, stealth and combat. The touch screen is also used to display the in-game map during standard gameplay. The combat system consists weak attacks, strong attacks, and combos of the two. Bombs and projectiles are also used. Three levels of difficulty allow more experienced players to take on bigger challenges. The Symbian mobile version appears to be an almost identical ported version of the DS release.
Weapons
Seven different weapons are utilized throughout the game: hidden retractable blade, sword, crossbow, explosive bombs, smoke bombs, and throwing knives.
Mini-Games
A handful of mini-games also make use of the Nintendo DS touch screen, allowing players to pick pockets and coerce reluctant victims to give up information.http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=92738 Collect orbs to level up Altair's health, perform combo attacks and master 11 weapon types.http://www.ubi.com/US/Games/Info.aspx?pId=6306
Featured Video
This video review of Altair's Chronicles features use of key in-game gameplay mechanics with both the touch control and Prince of Persia-styled platformer aspects of the game. Most of the gameplay revolves around use of 3-button combos, which may seem formulaic and boring after a few hours of repetitive fighting. You will notice that, for a handheld release, animations are smooth and the environments are detailed.
