Aspartame is an artificial sweetener that is marketed under brand names such as NutraSweet and Equal. It is used to sweeten a variety of diet drinks, such as Diet Coke. While some consider aspartame potentially harmful, the Food and Drug Administration in the United States denies there are any health risks in consuming it.
